| I won't pretend that I really know anything about this;
so here's my opinion. You can't turn lead into gold.
Actually, Amiga drives are Silver. To squeeze out more bits,
you need more accurate tracking, leaving less room for error.
You probably also need greater magnetic fields to really do it
right. Translated, I've read that you could get more bits onto
the standard DS/DD disk, but you are pushing it.
880K isn't so bad. Particularly when you consider the
price of the IBM-PS2 "High density" disks. (the lowest price
I've seen is $59 for 10, the highest was at the BU Bookstore/
Computer store, where they prey upon the totally stupid,
and the price was $96 for 10. Compared to the usual
$16.99 for SONY DS/DD disks used by the Amiga).

| Dave,
Thanks, that what I had figured.
However, I AM sure that the disks are the high density. It says
2DHD (They are memorex). I had thought that the price was low.
Maybe I should go get a few more boxes @ $16/box.

I don't know about the memorex disks, but the SONY 2 DS/DD are NOT the same
as the new high density disks for the IBM PS/2 series. (I don't know the
sony designation for it.) There appears to be a new generation of 3-1/2
inch disks, with a new price. Of course, the day I bought my amiga,
still naive in the way of computer dealers; I paid $60 for a box of
MAC disks. Sigh.
