| Re: .0
Neither of my drives make a squealing noise. However, I do have a couple
of microfloppy disks that make squeaking noises whenever they are put in
either drive.
I would call your dealer and feel him out on this issue at least. Maybe
he wont put up a fight about looking into fixing the drive.

766.2 | are new drives noisier? | ISTG::WISNER | Paul Wisner | Fri Oct 02 1987 17:02 | 8 |
| MY drives were noisy when they were new, and then the noisy faded
away. Now they are less noisy. It was more of a "nervous buzzy"
sound, but I would call it a "squealing noise". Also I have a friend
who just bought a 1000R and he was complaining about the noise the
drive made.
Did anybody else notice that new drives make more noise? Maybe
I just got used to it. I don't know.

766.3 | maybe just an old drive | CIMNET::KYZIVAT | Paul Kyzivat | Fri Oct 02 1987 18:46 | 8 |
| My drives (both internal and external) make a distinctive noise when reading or
writing. This is a characteristic of the early drives. I gather that the
latter ones are silent. It may be that you somehow got an old 1010, although
that would seem to be unusual unless it was a refurb. On the other hand, I
would not call the noise I get a scream - it is lower pitch, more of a sawing
sound.

| I've had disks that scream in the internal drive but are quiet
in the external drive. I know the drives are not the same
(noKLICKstart works only on the internal drive).
Does it scream when no disk is in the drive?
