| I've been severely considering picking up an A1000R from the Software
Shop for $450, and slapping in an Insider or something. I believe
that one can plug the serial port directly into the net and run
VT100/VT200.
My only qualm, other than the expense, is that I'd probably end
up giving several demos per day, get fired, and then have no use for
an Amiga at work at all.

I saw some plastic digital logos for sale at the last Computer
Fleamarket, you could use them to hide the Amiga logos. Just say
it's a prototype of a new low-end workstation that just happens
to run Amiga standard software :-)

re .1
Your idea of buying a $450 re-furbed 1000 from the Software Shop
sounded good to me so I talked to them; they want $925 for a system with
monitor & they won't sell them without a 1080. Maybe MCS...

Dave, I think you've been put off a bit by Moe, the owner.
I just spoke with Moe this morning, and he's going to put aside
the next refurb he gets in for a friend of mine.
I've given Moe a ton of money and referrals; he may be giving me
a little special treatment.
If you call Moe, tell him you're from DEC, and that Ed sent you,
he might be a little more cooperative. Then again, maybe I
overestimate my influence. After all, he's a businessman.

| I bought my refurbed A1000 from moe, and I did not buy
it with the amiga monitor...price=650..for 512k A1000R. Plus
I did buy a sony 1201 monitor that he had there...Like Ed
said, Moe is after all a Businessman. But I suspect that if
you go in and talk to him you would probably be able to get the
sytem without the monitor. For under $500? I don't know.

Where is the Software Shop in Worcester?
Thanks

| The Software Shop is on 84 Pleasant St, in Worcester, MA.
Pleasant St. runs perpendicular to Main St and intersects it at
City Hall. Number 84 is on the north side of Main St.
Pleasant St. is one-way at Main St, so you'll have tobacktrack.
If you're coming from rt 9, take Shrewsbury St to Washington Sq
rotary. Then, take second exit off rotary, and bear right. Go
straight through 2 red lights. The second light will be to cross
Main st. Go up the hill and bear left, then take a left at the
second light again. Another left will put you onto Pleasant St.
The Software Shop is a small closet, so you'll have to look for
it.
