683.1 | Take DECIGEL for fast relief! | LEDS::ACCIARDI | | Tue Sep 01 1987 14:47 | 18 |
| In addition to the titles you mentioned, Transformer will not work
properly either. TextCraft Plus is another offender (I have a
bootleg beta copy, but I don't think its released yet).
The offending programs use a 68000-specific instruction called 'MOVE
SR' or some such. I don't know assembler from Sanskrit.
Fortunately, there is a fix. DECIGEL is a very small routine that
should be placed in the first line of the startup-sequence on the
offending program. It invokes some sort of trap that converts the
offensive code into something the 68010/68020 can understand.
I think most of the offensive titles have come from England. It
could be that the problem is a case of ST-port-itis.
Anyway, I have an archive somewhere that is a collection of all 68010
related documents, including DECIGEL, and some 68010 notes. If
you like, I'll upload it here. It is fairly small.

683.2 | textcraft + has been released | WINERY::COLLUM | | Tue Sep 01 1987 14:59 | 7 |
| Upload! After buying Barbarian and finding it doesn't work, I sent
Psygnosis a nasty-gram about programming standards. No word from
them. I don't recall at the moment how it starts up, but anythings
worth a try ($30 is a lot to pay for a scratch disk.)

683.3 | True Basic, probably | NAC::PLOUFF | | Tue Sep 01 1987 16:05 | 7 |
| I think that when True Basic gave a talk at the Boston Computer
Society, they mentioned that their product was incompatible with
the 68010/020. Given that TB interprets an intermediate
processor-independent language when executing programs, it makes
sense that they would twiddle the condition codes a lot.

683.4 | | BAGELS::BRANNON | Dave Brannon | Tue Sep 01 1987 18:09 | 11 |
| re: .2
The folks who did Barbarian like custom boot disk formatting, i.e, no
Amigados, no startup-sequence, etc. So starting some other program
before it could very tricky. The ks/wb 1.2 OS has something to
handle the 68010, but since Barbarian needs 1.2 that looks like
either it's insufficient to handle it or the fix is in the Wb
code.

| Ed,
Do you still have Decigel ? Since you moved, the location mentioned
here is no longer valid. If not, could somebody please upload it
so I can copy it ?
Thanks for your help.

My new net address is LEDS3::USER6:[ACCIARDI.AMIGA]
Check in tomorrow.

683.7 | Roadwar | WINERY::COLLUM | | Thu May 26 1988 19:15 | 7 |
| Another winner... Roadwars from Mastertronic/Arcadia (marketed by
EA) will not run on anything other than a 68000. After talking with
them, their attitude was...it works on a 68000... not our problem.
Not a very marketable attitude with the new 68020/30 amigas rumored.
