679.0. "DiskMan Utility" by LEDS::ACCIARDI () Sun Aug 30 1987 01:48

I have obtained a slick new directory utility program. This one
does it all; it makes ARC'ing and de-ARC'ing files a breeze. It
also has the desireable property of being self-configurable; that
is, you decide what the contents of the selector buttons will be.
You can configure it to offer gadgets for VD0:, DF2:, DF3: or whatever
you like. It will also allow you to select whatever IFF viewer,
text editor, or file printer you like. It saves your custom
configuration file to a very tiny file in your sys:devs directory.

There is one small catch; the author designed the program to run
    on a 640 x 400, 3-plane (8-color) screen. This means that...

It will flicker on a 1080 monitor, and...

It will hog about 100K of CHIP ram. (CLImate also hogs 100K, but
what the hell, you only live once.) You might have trouble
multitasking with Draw Plus in 640 x 400 x 16 colors, and an active
WorkBench screen. (By the way, you'd have even more trouble trying
to do the above on any other microcomputer.)

This is at least worth checking out. The executable is only 37K.
    Look for it in JAKE::USER2:[ACCIARDI.AMIGA]

Thanks for the Upload... What a great utility!

P.S. I don't even need to use Cli anymore!

    Indeed, thanks!

I've liked these sort of utilities since they've started showing
up. I like the fact that this one is configurable. However, I've
noticed that it does on occasion lose memory. I don't recall what
I was doing... a copy, I think. I'll continue to make use of it
and see if it happens again. Sure wish the colors were as configurable
as the rest of it. Well, enough grousing. It's certainly the best
    of the bunch.

Glad you like it, but I've been a bad person... I neglected to upload
the text file that came with the ARChive. It gives credit to the
author. I must have deleted it somewhere along the line.

I'll download it again and place the docs where you found the other
    stuff.

re: .2

I don't remember where I saw it,
but I think there's a utility which allows you to change the colors
for a given screen. The utility was either on Amicus or FISH disks.

At least, I think I saw such a utility. Did anyone else see it?

Another one is called AnyTime. I think to remember that it comes
    with GrabbIt !

By the way, did anybody notice that this utility allows
double-clicking on directory names to select a dir listing?
I traditionally use DUIV (dirutil 4?), and it didn't have this
ability. I like being able to fire up microGNUemacs from this
utility too! Definitely worth the download time.

I've been a very bad boy... I neglected to upload the document for
DiskMan. Not only have I forced everyone to guess at all the
functions, I've done the author a disservice by not including the
credits. I'll post it in LEDS3::$1$DUA9:[ACCIARDI.AMIGA]

    Sorry for any inconvenience.
