678.0. "Animation" by AUTHOR::MACDONALD (WA1OMM Listening 224.28) Fri Aug 28 1987 10:12

    PROBE.ARC

There is a unique animation out called PROBE.ARC that runs for
several minutes. To summarize, a space probe is sent to Alpha Centauri
in search of life forms. The probe scans a planet in the system,
sending back photos (ala Voyager). The probe identifies a skull
on the planet's surface and begins an interesting reconstruction
of what it thinks the creature looked like when it was alive. This
is a "must have" animation! Be forewarned, its nearly 500 Kbytes
in length. I'll copy anyone who sends me a blank formatted diskette.
    Make sure it is FORMATTED.

I've seen the file descriptor for 'PROBE.ARC' on PLINK. This was
actually used as the storyline for a PBS program on space voyages.

What is your mailing address? I'd like to get a copy.

Well, Seor Eduardo went Plinking this weekend and saw what looked
like a neat demo. Even though it sounded familiar, he decided "What
the hell" and downloaded it before checking if anyone else had it.

He then checks and finds out he saved himself the trouble of walking
from 21-4 to 5-5, which would have taken almost five minutes.

Oh well. At least I made a certain company in South Dakota happy
by logging all this download time to the small piece of gray plastic
they have been so gracious as to grant me the privilege of using.

Anywho the point is PROBE.ARC may now be found in ROZETT::AMIGA:
It is 3567 Xmodem blocks (translation: It's a big momma, probably
~1 hour @ 1200bps) but those of us too lazy/stupid to bother
with sending an actual physical disk through internal mail don't
    care, do we?

Disclaimer: ROZETT has a gargantuan disk which is almost entirely
empty, so I can afford to dump this stuff on it. If and when we ever
decide to use this system for serious work, this will be the first
directory to take a dive into the Bit Bucket. In effect, files
herein are subject to being trashed without any notification.
Probably won't happen for a while but You Have Been Warned.

I forgot - you also need PROBE.README which was a separate file
and since I'm too lazy to do an ARC A it remains a separate file.

I DL probe.arc last night. It did take forever. Anyway, I followed
the directions in the readme file, executed execute.me to
rename the files, and executed exec.me to run the thing. Well, it
can't load smallfont.font. I set up the directories as in the
readme file, so what did I do wrong? I really want to see this
        thing.

Did you do EXACTLY what it said in the README? I thought that I
had done it too, and this same thing bit me. Go through and recheck
    the things that you did.
