640.0. "A1000 docs???" by CSC32::J_PARSONS () Mon Aug 10 1987 14:06

Does anyone know if the A1000 documentation is available for ordering
through Commodore? I have an opportunity to purchase an A1000 (used)
with a warranty for $449 and I think I'm going to go with that rather
than get a 500, which I'm still not sold on. The catch is there's
no documentation with the system. From what I understand the 1000
doc set isn't much good anyway, but it would still be nice to have
    with the machine.

Re: .0

I assume that you are talking about the Amiga 1000 owner's guide and
the AmigaBasic Manual (these are the two manuals that come with the machine).
All the other documentation is sold in bookstores.

The owner's manual is handy to have. It contains an excellent description
of how to set up the machine and operating tips. Its flaw is that it doesn't
explain all of the user interface. It just describes the lowest level of
the user interface and leaves out advanced features of the interface like
multiple selection to run tools, multiple menu selection using the left
mouse button, and a few other things.

The AmigaBasic manual would be useful if you plan to do any BASIC programming.
AmigaBasic is pretty much compatible with other advanced Microsoft BASICs,
but does have many extensions specific to the Amiga: speech, sprites, hardware
detection of sprite collisions, etc.

I don't know if you can buy the manuals separately. I would suspect that
you can. With the new Amiga 1000 trade in for a Amiga 2000 program, I
expect that Commodore will need a lot of new Amiga 1000 manuals.

I think that there is a Commodore Telephone Support number. Does anyone
know it? I think they would be the people to ask.

I have two copies of the Amiga Basic manual; you are welcome to
one. I really don't think the other manual is worht paying for
if you could get it. It really only covers that part of the system
that is actually quite intuitive. A couple of hours and a few
questions of an experienced user will suffice. Where should I mail
the Basic book (please give me a few days to find it).
