637.0. "Is there an updated SuperBase???" by KIRK::KYZIVAT (Paul Kyzivat) Fri Aug 07 1987 11:13

I just received my bargain priced version of Superbase Personal ($81)
from GO AMIGO yesterday. After playing with it briefly I wonder if I
have been ripped off. It doesn't seem to have been updated for
compatibility with V1.2. There are a couple of reasons I think this:

    - the manual talks about having to click in text requesters before
typing in them, although this is not correct - they do come up
      enabled.

    - it has a number of warning requestors (like when the record you are
looking for is not found). These just have an OK box to click when
you have seen them. However, these just flash briefly on the screen
and then disappear on their own without being clicked.

    - the file requestors are old style, with no buttons to select a
      different disk drive.

These sound typical of V1.1 software running on V1.2, though I didn't
yet have time to try running it on 1.1. Normally this would be obvious
from what workbench was on the disk, but this doesn't come with
workbench. In spite of these problems it so far appears to be a nice
    product.

Is it possible either that Superbase was never updated for 1.2 or that
I have been sold an obsolete version? I would call the company to ask
    except they are in England.

If GO AMIGO sold me an obsolete version after telling me they were
backordered for three weeks I will never buy anything from them again.
When I first placed the order they said they were out but would be
getting more the same day. For $5 more I could have bought from Abel.

637.2Sounds like 1.2Z::TENNYDave Tenny | DTN 225-6089Fri Aug 07 1987 13:126
RE: .0

If your requestors are automatically selected for input,
(like you said in the first item); then the product is using
1.2 features. It sounds like your documentation is not
up to date however.

Mine does this too, but I bought it in April. I haven't heard of an
updated version.

Yeah, but there is something on the menu that allows you to
change drive:directories. I forget what it's called, off-hand,
but it's over on the right.

I seem to remember they have a distributor (in Texas?) with a
hotline for questions. I believe it's listed in the
documentation. Let me know if you are interested and can't find
it.

Fortunately, there's an American distributor. I don't have the exact
address (look in the INFO list of suppliers), but it's Progressive
Peripherals in Denver. They've long been associated with some of the
best (see INFO's reviews) software and expansion hardware available for
    the C-64/128.

Re: .0, .2

Let me emphasize what Dave said in .2. If the text requesters are coming up
selected for input, it is because the program is calling 1.2-only functions.
So, at least it sounds like they did give you a 1.2 compatible version.

However, your other problems do make it sound like this isn't a winner of
a program.

I have been using it for quite sometime and think it is a winner
of a program. The version that is current is dated November 28,
    1986 on the startup screen.

Just purchased mine in the last month and it has the same date.
I've also heard talk about Superbase Professional. Any info?
