I recently bought a NEC CP6 printer at Memory Location. They gave me a printer driver "nec_cp6" which does a good job on escape sequences translation and graphic rendering but which unfortunately doesn't work on some characters like accent alpha characters. In fact it seems that all characters codes higher than ASCII 128 are translated into some other lower value characters codes (most of them being blank). This is very ennoying as all my word processor applications won't print french (or other foreign languages) messages which I often use. Note that the NEC printer character set is different from the Amiga one. It supports both the Italic and IBM character sets. Does anyone have a NEC CP6 printer driver which would work (for example on the CLI you type a line of ALT H or ALT I after "copy * prt:" and get the right accent characters, or type them in the notepad and then print), or does anyone have the SOURCE CODE of the printer driver (or anything else which would help). Roland.

I believe there is a printer driver editor out there somewhere. I'm sure there is a commercial program and also a PD program.

I've been thinking about getting a new printer. How do you like the NEC? I've only seen samples from the P6. How well does it do color and grey scales? How hard is it to get ribbons? ... Rich

The printer is a good price performance one. The color printing is quite good. It was recommended to me by Memory Location as the best dot matrix printer for the Amiga. I suggest that you visit them for a demo. The ribbons are supplied from them as well but are quite expensive ($25 for the color ribbon). One of the best feature of the printer is that it allows to load a custom character set with your own fonts.

Is this a 24-pin printer? And, does it have Epson LQ1500 emulation?
629.5 | yes; yes; still none | SAUTER::SAUTER | John Sauter | Mon Aug 31 1987 17:38 | 13 |
re: .4 According to the manual, it is a 24-pin printer with Epson LQ 1500 emulation. I've never heard of the Epson LQ 1500, but when I told my Apple IIe that it was driving an Epson FX, it did italics, underline, subscript, superscript, and several pitches correctly. re: .0 I picked up the printer at Memory Location a week ago Saturday. At that time they told me there was still no Preferences printer support for it at full resolution (360 dpi). John Sauter

Check the LCA BBS in Norwood (get the number from directory assistance) its the store number. There is a P6 driver on it. Also a HUGE collection of PD for the Amiga. |
