| You would most likely have to replace one of the 8520s. I don't
know where you can get one of these guys except at an authorized
dealer. It should cost about 45.00 with labor. If you want to
know which one of the two 8520's it is, I can look at my schematics
but they aren't readily available. THey are underneath 5 weaks
collecting garbage in my room.

602.2 | found one, (I think) | MTBLUE::PFISTER_ROB | | Thu Jul 30 1987 08:31 | 7 |
| I saw an ad in computer shopper from BG micro, or J&S, or someplace
like that for an 8520b for $5.95, is this the same creature? or
is this a speciality chip?
thanks

| Looks like I need a new Paula, having finally got my A1000 schematics,
and my dinasour oscilloscope going. Any idea's where I could buy one?
(Not too many authorized Amiga dealers up here, and an even smaller
number of helpfull ones)
Thanks.

| I'm also considering buying a used/bare-bones[no monitor] A1000, with working
serial port. Any good deals on them?
Thanks

How did your avatex 1200 die? What were you doing or not doing?
I just bought one and it works fine but I would like to avoid
a problem if I can. Thanks in advance.

602.6 | not really sure.. | MTBLUE::PFISTER_ROB | No Pain, No Pain | Mon Jan 18 1988 12:56 | 10 |
| re: -.1
I'm not really sure why it did that. It was on for about 8 months straight,
and about all I can figure was the heat/humidity got to it. (It was a rather
hot week when it died)
Avatex did send me a new modem (next model up actually) no problem, but getting
the port to work is getting to be a hassle...

| For replacement parts, I have used D-FIVE Associates in Bedford,
Mass. They will send you the part along with an invoice. It usually
takes 10 days to get the part, since I imagine they get it from
CBM. I just got a replacement FAT AGNUS chip from them. Just give
them a call and tell them what you want.

| Thanks, they do in fact have Paula's, unfortunately they are a bit harsh at $64
( %20 of the going rate for a used A1000)

I know someone here did this for an IBM AT one time. It was
an 8741 (or one of those CPU,RAM, ROM, UART chips) with a couple
connectors. It handled ^S, ^Q (XOFF, XON) flow control.
It required external power.
I can probably get the scematic and source for the program. But it seems
there must be a better way...
