If you can find the source, I'd be more than willing to participate
in a joint project with you. I'd LOVE to be able to get at Intuition
from inside XLISP. The only real hassle would be maintaining
compatibility with later release of XLISP; it would require some
careful planning to make sure we didn't get stuck in a corner...
Anybody else interested ?

Wow, how times change. Remember when XLISP was first written. It
was developed on a PDT-11 by a DEC employee who moved on to another
company. A PDT is basically a very small LSI-11 (of PDP-11/03 size)
with a total of 64K of memory and two single sided 8 inch drives
(243K per drive).

Sounds like a decent endeavor, I'm interested, but after I get my
serial port/modem problems straightened out (I'm afraid both are
toast, or a reasonable facimile).
Now where's the source?

| RE: .2
No, sorry, I had the office next to Dave's when he started XLISP.
He developed the first version of XLISP on a VAX. It may have
been ported to the PDT using DECUS C, but he started on a 780.

596.5 | New DMA hard disk? | Z::TENNY | Dave Tenny | DTN 225-6089 | Fri Jul 17 1987 14:14 | 8 |

I spoke with Don at The Memory Location today,
he mentioned an ad in AmigaWhirld (which I no longer receive)
for another DMA hard disk besides the Pal Jr.
Has anyone seen it?
Would you post a word or two about it?

I looked in an AmigaWorld for the ad mentioned in .5,
and found the vaporware announcement. It might be worth
waiting for.
All I remember about it was:
Uses DMA
List price 1099 $
If nothing else, when it appears, maybe it will drive down
other prices.

I've got version 1.7 of Xlisp in
SQM""::PERFD1$:[JMSYNGE.PUBLIC.XLISP]
I've deleted the examples, so you'll need to know how to use
all the features with out reference to the examples.

596.9 | comspec hard drive, bootable! | Z::TENNY | Dave Tenny | DTN 225-6089 | Thu Sep 24 1987 14:47 | 15 |

I received a blurb from COMSPEC communications about their new hard drive
offering. (I purchased their 2M memory board).
The disks were in 20M and 40M flavors, and the price was a little stiff,
( $11xx.00 for the 20M and I don't remember the 40M at all)
but,
COMSPEC claims that the kickstart and workbench will BOOT FROM THE HARD DISK!
Anyway,
I already have a Supra drive, but if anyone is interested,
I'll post more accurate info from the blurb.

| List prices don't mean all that much, Dave. The 20 meg Supra lists
for $995, but the street price is $750-$850.
As more vendors release products, prices are bound to drop further.

Yup, I'm aware of "real" prices. I bought my 30-meg supra from ABEL supply.
I hate to think of what the memory location would charge, even on a nice day.
