| CAREFUL! Amiga cabling has voltage which can damage peripherals
you might connect particularly through the RS232 port. Make sure
you connect only the required comm pins and not those carrying voltage.
Read the Manual that comes with the Amiga.

| I read a note that said to first try cutting pins 9 and 10 which
carry +/- 12 volts. Ill see what happens.

| i just have pins 1-8 and 20 connected, works fine with a DF03.
According to comments on Usenet, the 500 does have power on the
same pins as the 1000 - just minimal power, enough to power Digi-View
but not enought to harm peripherals connected to those pins.

I've been using a DF124 with my A1000 for awhile now. The
cable I wired up has only pins 2,3, & 7 connected (i.e.
transmit data, receive data, and signal ground). I've used
this arrangement with several other modems and serial devices
and it's never caused any problems.
Just be sure you force the assertion of DTR inside the modem
(one of switches on switchpack-3, if I remember rightly).

549.6 | Finally works! | ESD30::CHAVIS | They laughed when I sat at the keyboard | Tue Jun 16 1987 09:53 | 8 |
| I finally got the serial port to work. After constructing a
cable with pins 1-8 and 20 only, I determined that the port
was shot. I returned the A-500 and got a new one. All works
well now. The A-500 serial port is somewhat standard I guess.
A BC22-E cable will work fine.
Thanks for all the help,
Ira
