533.0. "A2000 for $2000?" by BAGELS::BRANNON (Dave Brannon) Fri Jun 05 1987 18:04

Lately there have been lots of claims on Usenet that the list price
for the A2000 will be $1995 and for the A500 it will be $699.

If true, it seems to me that there is quite a price gap that
a repackaged A500 could fit in. Add a detachable keyboard and
a couple internal expansion slots... stuff it in A1000 case or
even the C128D case (whatever they call the C128 with detachable
    keyboard).

533.1A2000 for $2000.SOFTY::HEFFELFINGERBored on BoardSat Jun 06 1987 14:3327
A local dealer just came back from the Atlanta COMDEX with some
information and marketing hype from the horse's mouth. Forgive
me if any of this information can be found elsewhere. According
to my friend, C-A says that the price for the 2000 will be $1995
and $699 for the 500. The offical trade-up deal for current 1000
owners is A1000 + $1000 = A2000. Feh! [My comment, not his.] My
friend made no mention of a C128-A500 deal but that means nothing
because he knows that I have no 128. Regarding the price gap, I
saw an advertising brochure that displayed the 2000, the 1000 and
the 500. Evidently C-A does not plan to immediately dump the 1000,
rather they plan to just choke it off by putting it in a price bracket
where few in their right minds would purchase one.

Some final notes: C-A gave fervent promises that they would
effectively advertise the Amiga from now on. (Can you say "In a
pig's eye?" I knew that you could.) My friend said that he saw
some Amiga generated videos that he claimed could easily be used
in or as TV commercials. One exciting note for closet Mario
Andretti's: my friend saw a demo of EA's upcoming cockpit view
racing game. He says that it's outstanding. It's scheduled for
release sometime after "Earl Weaver Baseball" and before their upcoming
    someone-or-other's football game.

Note: C-A claims they are committed to a late July early August release
of the A2000. Odd how it slides.

    The Software Shop also quoted A1000 + $1000 = A2000.

    not that i'm interested...

    	I talked with Abel's Supply, and was quoted an A2000 = $1368.05.
They made no mention (and I didn't ask) about A1000 trade-ins,
but the word is that ALL authorized Commodore Dealers MUST accept
A1000's for trade in value on A2000 purchases. FYI, and HD/SCSI
card for the A2000 is $280.81. Anyone know of better prices?

I was taking with a dealer this weekend about the 1000->2000
upgrade and he was not happy. It seems that dealer MUST support
the upgrade but with no support from C-A. He said that C-A is not
buying back the A1000's. For him to make any profit on an upgrade
    he must sell the 1000.

    I.E
Dealer sells 1000->2000 upgrade. C-A gets $1000.00 and the
dealer gets a used A1000. The dealer then sells the A1000 for
$xx.xx and the dealer makes $xx.xx . ( might be some good deals
    on used A1000s ).

    re:.4

interesting... if i recall correctly, the upgrade is a trade-in
on the CPU unit only, so the dealer might be able to make additional
$$$ on the monitor and second disk drive if he finds someone to
    buy the 1000.

And he gains a customer for 2000 expansion boards/drives.

In the July/August AmigaWorld, the ad for Microcomputer Services
    has refurbished 1000s for $499.95. If the 500 goes for $650, $150
price difference might be enough to sell it.

If a customer wants an Amiga with a detachable keyboard, its either
    $500? for a refurbished 1000, $1XXX? for a new 1000, or $1995 for
    a 2000.

The prices for the 500 have started dropping here already. I've
seen adds for ~DM 1170 (original list was DM 1298). That's about
10% in just a few weeks..

Some sell the 2000 for ~DM 2300-2400. (original list DM 2998).

    F.Y.I. 1 US$ ~ DM 1.80.

533.7???? WHEN ????ELWOOD::WHERRYCyber PunkTue Jul 28 1987 18:116
So when is the 2000 gonna come out in the US?? Has anyone heard??

I asked that question of the Nashua Amiga dealer last weekend.
They disclaim any knowledge of when it will be available. I think
they don't want to make a prediction and then have their customers
disappointed when it doesn't come true.

SOme demo units are starting to get around. Saw one up close and
personal at LCA video in Norwood.

It was fully loaded. Bridge Card,2 meg memory and hard drive. Very
impressed. Loaded all sorts of stuff and still had lots of memory
left. Unfortunatly I ran out of time before it ran out of memory.

The windows where so busy I couldn't figure out what I had going.
