I notice a HUGE difference in prices at the local Amiga shops. For example, Memory Location charges $195 for AC/BASIC, less a member's discount the price is about $181. However, the Software Shop in Worcester is selling it for $149. I would imagine that getting local shops to be more competitive would be a rather simple task ... shop at those stores that are offering the best value. That is the American way - isn't it? I don't understand how the Memory Location can get away with charging near or at list price for their software -- guess there are a lot of saps out there who don't mind spending the extra dollars for the exact same piece of software they can purchase for far less a few miles away! Well, the competition of a few more Amiga shops will do OUR economy some good! Paul

I noticed this too. But really, where are you going to find salesmen(women) that are that helpful. I think their efforts are worth the extra ten for a game or utility. But thats as far as it goes. I would definately not buy hardware from them. (You should have seen the salesman's eyeballs pop out when I told him I could get the CP6 for 549$.) ph | |||||

Re: .0 Don't forget, Paul, that the Software Shop is more of a garage (or Church) operation than the Memory Location. Moe (of the Software Shop) really is not all that knowledgeable, and has meager offerings for hardware. For software, they're hard to beat. For the unitiated, the Memory Location is a much better place to go to find out what printers work best, who has the fastest hard drive, which MIDI port is the best etc.. For that service, you'll have to spend a few more dollars. What I really resented in a big way was shelling out list price for my Amiga in 10/85 to Computerland, only to find that they had not one person who had a clue as to what the Amga ws. Worse, they took 8 weeks to repair a friend's floppy by swapping it with a new one. Then, last fall, they had the inmitigated gall to try to sell me an Apple ][GS, telling me that it was everything the Amiga should have been and then some... I'm still doing a slow burn over THAT.. By the way, my brother-in-law reports that Apple is having BIG problems selling the ][GS. |
