499.1 | Wait for WordPerfect?? | LEDS::ACCIARDI | | Tue May 12 1987 18:06 | 13 |
| A friend of mine is a Beta tester of WordPerfect for the Amiga.
This is supposed to be a real killer, and is one of the best WP
packages for the IBM world. It has been fully Amiga-ized and is
supposed to have every conceivable feature. The price is pretty
impressive too, at $399 list.
This package may in fact make the Amiga 'Respectable', since it
wuold be the first major rewrite from the IBM world to take adantage
of multitasking, windows, etc.
Release date is Real Soon Now.

I notice the author of that note has Excellence! I didn't want to
reply there, so thought this might be a better place. Can you provide
an objective review of Excellence!? The latest AmigaWorld seemed to
rate it highly, but their judgement is frequently questionable. Did
you do an A/B comparison with others before buying?

| answer to r.3
I haven't really used the program Excellence as of yet. I bought it
for my wife who is presently going to college and needed a WP program
to ease the tasks of doing reports. Didn't do much comparison of WP's
before buying. Had Textcraft with my first Amiga, I thought that it
wasn't a very good program (cumbersome). I bought Excellence for a
couple of reasons. It has a very large dictionary and thesarus that
come with the program, it also supports IFF images (graphics), has
spell checker. The second reason I bought it is that it came highly
recommended from Moe (the owner of the Software Shop) when I was
purchasing my Amiga. The price tag is a little steep $189 but I believe
in that old saying, "quality doesn't come cheap." Also I might add,
I've skimmed through the documentation and it looks like the
documentation is presented well. And Excellence does have special
features such as online spell checking, tells you when you've made a
typo as your typing, it also has some type of critique method where it
will review your work and give some helpful hints (although I've been
told to use this without great expectations). Haven't actually tried it
as of yet.
I'll ask my wife what she thinks of Excellence and post another note if
she has anymore valuable information to add.
