I have recently bought an Amiga and I have a problem. I got V1.1 of the software with the system. When I tried to run the basic demo "speech" I got an 'illegal function call' when translate$ was called. I bought a copy of V1.2 and the same problem is still there. The call seems to be correct according to the Basic manual. I will probably not be programming in basic but I am curious to know what is wrong. Does anybody know anything about this? Thanks John

Yeah, I've had the same trouble and I can't figure it out either.

Re: .0 Do you have a 256k or 512k Amiga? It could be you are running out of memory? Have you deleted any files from your boot disk? For example, have you deleted libs/translator.library or devs/narrator.device? If when you run the program, do you get a box requesting you insert the Workbench disk into any drive? (You would get this message if you have only one drive and are using the Workbench and Extras disk just as they came out of the box.) If so, insert the boot disk so that the system can load its libraries and device drivers.

Just to finish this off, I added the 256K upgrade and the problem went away. So that must have been the problem. |
