424.0. "Lotus Transformer & DOS-2-DOS" by CSSE::WARD () Tue Mar 31 1987 12:33
DOS-2-DOS Easy File Transfer: MSDOS To AmigaDOS
Computer Shopper, April 1987 Page 287 By Ronald Bobo
Keywords: MSDOS 3.5 in. format, LOTUS, TRANSFORMER, VIP Professional,
boot record
"First of all, the Format utility included on the Extras disk
does not support the new MSDOS 3.5 inch disk format, whereas
DOS-2-DOS does."
... "DOS-2-DOS will always format it (MSDOS drive) to 720K. It
can however, read and write to the 3.5 inch 360K format. If you
want to use 3.5 inch disks with the 360K format, it must be done
under the Transformer."
"remains in memory (small)... convenient if you have only one
drive"
"the program was written for people who are already familiar
with MSDOS"
"To quote George Chamberlain of Central Coast Software,
''DOS-2-DOS was written for the person who, for example, might
bring a Lotus spreadsheet home to do further work on it using
VIP Professional. Afterwards, he would transfer back to an MSDOS
disk and take it back to work the next morning.''"
"Format will format either a 5.25 inch or, as discussed
previously, a 3.5 inch disk for MSDOS. MSDOS disks formatted by
DOS-2-DOS contain no boot record"
FORMAT/1 - single sided disks
FORMAT/8 - eight sectors per track
Price $55.00 plus $3.00 shipping and handling

| I just wanted to put in a good word about this DOS-2-DOS utility.
My wife uses this primarily to transfer WordPerfect files on the amiga
to the Tandy TX 1000 which she has at work via 3 1/2" disk.
Also I successfully downloaded some IBM software from the MKTUP1::,
transferred it to and IBM disk with DOS-2-DOS and it worked on the
Tandy! Believe it or not the IBM PD software was in an ARC file!
This went as follows:
1. Obtain the desired ARC file from MKTUP1:: (after 5pm)
2. cvtarc the file to kermit format (the format of these IBM ARC
files on the VAX is really strange).
3. download the file to ram: using kermit.
4. Unarc the monster with amigados ARC v2.3 to an Amiga disk.
5. DOS-2-DOS copy the files to an IBM disk.
I've also gotten this to work with IBM .EXE & .COM files (not arc'ed).
DOS-2-DOS is fairly small (26K bytes) is not copy-protected and
if you follow the instructions in the manual works as stated. The
only complaints I have are that when you refer to an amigaDOS drive
you must use the volume name of the disk rather than say df0: and
it doesn't seem to be capable of working with RAM:, only dfx:.
Violating either of these tends to visit the guru.

424.2 | DOS-2-DOS R/W Atari ST Files? | CGFSV2::CADAMS | Clint Adams - Calgary, Canada | Mon Apr 25 1988 14:17 | 17 |
| I saw a note in the Atari ST notes file that stated DOS-2-DOS is
capable of writing and reading ST format floppies on the Amiga (or was
it the other way around).
I have a friend who was given an Atari ST for a gift and hasn't really
used it much. He said he thought he would sell it and by a clone.
Rather than see him turn into a PC zombie I said I would see if it is
possible for me to download some PD software for him (he has no modem)
and get him interested in the machine.
If DOS-2-DOS would do the job, I'd probably get a copy (be nice to
have anyway). Maybe there are some PD programs that can do this to.
Anyone had any experience in this???
Regards.... Clint

| yes, DOS-2-DOS will read/write/format ST single and double density
disks on the Amiga. You could download to the Amiga, then use
DOS-2-DOS to put ST programs on a disk for your friend.
I haven't found any public domain packages that will do what DOS-2-DOS
does.
One suggestion - get your friend involved with some ST user group,
that should help revive his interest in the ST. Or maybe an Amiga500
might be of more interest to him.
