| The Transformer will not allow transfer of MS-Dos formatted files
to AmigaDOS files. Under the Transformer, even when using a 3.5"
MS-Dos disk, the disk is formatted to 720K, and if you re-boot under
AmigaDOS, you'll get a bad disk message.
There is a commercial program called DOS-2-DOS that you may want
to check out. I believe it is reviewed in last month's AmigaWhirled.
For me, the small cost of a modem (1200 baud models can be bought
for around $100) outweighs the aggrevation of having to swap formats.

| You can use Kermit to transfer files from the Rainbow to the
Amiga (that's how I do it, I use the Rainbow as a sort of a 'file
server'; so I can copy files locally at 9600 bps). I wrote a note
somewhere in this file about it.
There's also a utility called VMSFLX that can write (and read)
MS-DOS floppies on a uVAX.

| I have been transferring files using a pair of VT180's, one in my
office and the other at home. This was my pre-Amiga personal mainframe
computer. I copy files from the owner's account to my local VAX,
kermit to the VT180, disk to home, kermit from VT180 to AMIGA.
This works perfectly for ARC files but binaries need to be chopped
or FIXOBJ'd.
I hope to improve my link by using a Rainbow or VAXmate in the near
future. My plan was to use the PC Utilities on the 1.2 Extras
disk to read the floppies directly. Has anyone tried this? I would
be interested in details of why it would not work.
The VMSFLX utility sounds even better. Could you make it available
or point me to the source.

| The Transformer 5.25" disk drive and the Sidecar 5.25" disk drive
both only are max 360K drives. With DOS-2-DOS or the 1.2 PC utilities
you should be able to access files on a 360K disk.
Some 5.25" drives can be formatted as 720K, but i don't think the
drives mentioned above can do that. The 3.5" drive can be formatted
under the Transformer as either 720K or 360K depending on the MS-DOS
you use (PC-DOS only does 360K)
Neither 5.25" drive can handle PC-AT density floppies (1.2 Mb)
