379.1 | Church full of software | KIRK::LONG | | Sun Apr 19 1987 13:15 | 17 |
| A dedicated Amiga store, what a treat to not have somebody try
to drive an Apple or IBM-PC down my throat. Good prices, the best
software selection I've seen anywhere, and they are getting in
more hardware all the time. I did spend all of Saturday morning
trying to find the place and even when I did, was a little
concerned about going into a church with no signs on the outside
to buy software. ( I think we have all probably prayed for working
software before :^) ).
Anyway, got a StarBoard 2 with 2 Meg for $559 ( don't know if this
is a good price but don't care as I now don't know how I lived
without a large ram disk before this )
I had considered a Winchester but for the dollar, I think the large
ram disk is more useful.

379.2 | Do they sell 1000's? | SPHINX::DAVIS | | Sun Apr 19 1987 13:55 | 10 |

Ah, they're selling hardware too. Any idea what they want for a '1000
+ external drive? I'mve been looking for a resonably local store to
pick a unit up at. (I live in Leominster work in Littleton) The only
local store I've found with Amiga's is the Instant Software replacement
in Acton & they want $1500 for a '1000 + monitor!

| You can get a great deal in Nashua at Electronics Boutique at the
Pheasant Lane Mall (next to Sears on the first floor). Also, you
can get'em at Computer Mart of Nashua on Main Street downtown. EB
is a bit cheaper. At either you'll save yourself 5% Mass. sales
tax.

379.4 | $1500 is tooooooooo much!!! | KIRK::LONG | | Sun Apr 19 1987 21:23 | 15 |
| Re .2
They did have a stack of monitors and 1000's there but you have
to ask for the prices as nothing is marked. The software prices
were very good.
Anybody that charges more than $1100 for the monitor and 1000
with 512K should be avoided. ( I got mine at that price last May
from Atlantic Computer in Waltham and that was before the 1000
was discontinued by Commadore in favor of the 500 and 2000 )
Shop around a little, the extra saved can buy other toys to go
with it. ( I found the sale at Atlantic Computer in the financial
section of the Sunday Boston Globe )

Commodore has not discontinued the Amiga 1000, yet. They freely admit that
currently no 1000s are being produced, but several Commodore representatives,
including the president of Commodore, have public stated that they expect that
the 1000 will continue to sell, and as long as it does, they will sell them.
Rattigan, the president, in fact stated that he thought the 1000 would
continue to sell well in North America.
The general expectation is that the 1000 will be cost-reduced in the future
by using ICs in place of discrete components, but that is about all.
Of course, the future of the 1000 is somewhat uncertain. If 1000 sells
drop off, it could be discontinued. But, Commodore has never stated
that the 1000 is going to be discontinued.
In the 1000's favor, sells have not seemed to drop off since the announcement.
The general feeling seems to be that the announcement of the 500 and 2000 have
stimulated interest in the 1000. There is a growing fear that 1000s may become
scarce before the 500s and 2000s become available to be sold.

| Take the Gold Star Boulevard exit off of 290. Head west on Park
Avenue until you come to Highland St. Bear right on Highland, go
abbout a mile or so until you come to a small rotary. Take the
second right on the rotary. This is Pleasant St. Follow Pleasant
about a quarter mile. Elmwood st is on the right.

379.8 | A small move! | THRUST::RILEY | | Mon May 18 1987 16:19 | 7 |
| The directions in the last note are correct except that the Gold
Star Boulevard exit is off of 190 instead of 290.
Also they have made a small move. They now have a real shop in
the basement of the church. There is still no sign outside. You
enter the shop by way of a door to the right of the steps leading
up to the church.

| I found it after checking a map. Gold Star Boulevard and Park Avenue
appear to be local names for parts of Rt.9
Head west on Rt.9 from 290
The church is easy to spot from the main road - i've never seen
a church with a satellite dish before.
They have Starglider and Faery Tale Adventure (MicroIllusions) in
stock, $35 each

| They moved again to 84 pleasent St. Go 3/4 around the rotary from
Highland St. the Pleasant St.
While I was there I saw the Amiga TV commercials on video tape.
(to be shown this fall).
They were all Amiga graphics. Very nice. I'm going to
cheer each time I see them on TV.
