Has anybody heard anything about AEGIS SONIX yet? I stopped by the Memory Location and they dont have it in stock yet. But the place in Worcester advertised it in this months Amiga World. Has anybody tried it? From the blurb in AW it sounds better than Deluxe Music. Anybody for a review? -p

As you may know, Sonix is the last remake of Musicraft. I did have a chance to use an, er, ahem...beta copy called Sonix 1.3. It is vey much like Musicraft in appearance and function, with some additional support for MIDI (Musicraft had none). Sonix has a wonderful instrument design screen, with analog slider gadgets to control ASDR envelopes, harmonic content, low frequency oscillation, and a host of other musical terms that I do not understand. Deluxe Music is sadly wanting in the area of instrument design. The instruments themselves are much more rich and vibrant and realistic sounding in Sonix. Deluxe Music has more control over note entry and editing than Sonix. Sonix does not support crescendo and descendo, slur notes, beam notes, etc. So, its kind of a weird situation...Sonix has terrific instruments and instrument control, but DMCS has better note entry. Maybe somebody will take the best features of each program...'Deluxe Sonix'...

I forgot to mention in .1 that Sonix now supports the IFF music format. Sonix scores are stored in .SMUS files, and actually do work with Deluxe Music and Deluxe Video. I hope Aegis is holding back Sonix to add some of the features of DMCS. I would definately buy Sonix with these features.

The Software Shop (Mar/Apr Amigaworld, pg 97) lists Sonix for $51 mail order (or in person Worcester Ma). steve mcafee

Thanks for the replys...The guy in Worcestor lists it for 51 but he doesn't have it in yet. It sounds like a pretty good deal for 51 bucks even without the crescendo etc etc, but it would be nice.

I was in the Software Shop on 4/4/87, and they had a half-dozen or so copies of Sonix. I believe the price was $51.00.
371.7 | Colortone keyboard for Sonix | CGFSV1::CALENG | Calgary Field Engineers | Tue Apr 21 1987 15:37 | 8 |
Hi, In the Sonix manual, there is reference to a Colortone keyboard that plugs into the second mouse port. Does anybody know what it is and where I can find it? Thanks in advance John

I saw Sonix being demonstrated in the Aegis booth at the February Commodore Show. Aegis had a Yahmaha DX7 on a rack MIDI-ed into an Amiga runing Sonix. The developer of the product was there giving demos of its ability. In terms of MIDI-power, it didn't seem to have a whole lot. When I asked if it could do multi-track sequencing, record/playback, etc.. the developer responded to the effect that they were in firefighting mode on the program and had just barely squeezed out what they were showing. I didn't see the Colortone keyboard there at that demonstration. You might try calling Aegis Tech Support. -Tom Gray |
