358.0. "Don't ignore European Amigas!" by ECC::JAERVINEN (impersonal name) Fri Feb 27 1987 09:01
SET FLAME /SIMMER
Why do many of the U.S. software writers ignore the European Amigas
(PAL version, non-US keyboard?)
While I cannot demand this from those of you who have written software
for PD (and I repeat once more my appreciation for your work) it
would certainly be on the top of my wishlist.
But also a lot of commercially available SW for the Amiga seems
to misbehave with the European versions.
CBM introduced the wonderful keymap feature in V1.2 to support
non-US keyboards; why not use it? I don't have the documentation
so I don't know what the impacts are for e.g. reading the function
keys etc. but a lot of the software around seems to simply
bypass the keymap.
Another thing often ignored is alos the 256 pixel vertical
resolution of the PAL Amiga. While not using this will not harm
the functionality of the software, it would be nice to have 32 lines
of text e.g. in an editor (or full 256 pixels of graphics).
