322.0. "Rainbow as a 'file server'" by ECC::JAERVINEN (impersonal name) Fri Feb 13 1987 03:20
I was thinking hard one of these days about how to get all the PD
software that is floating on the net to my Amiga (I don't even have
a modem at home).
But I do have a rainbow for the more serious (?) work, with a hard
disk - and there is this program called VMSFLX that can read/write
Rainbow MS-DOS floppies on a VAX - and Rainbow Kermit has a server
mode. So what I did was to copy the stuff to MS-DOS floppies
on a VAX, the get them on my Rainbow, install Kermit on it (and
VT100 on the Amiga), one crossed cable and zap! it works perfectly
(I know Mr. Murphy and I was really amazed to be able to pass even
executable files through this chain of various formats with no
problems).
I can now use the RB as a 'file server' for the Amiga (I currently
have only one drive); the Kermit server mode does this rather
comfortable (though still relatively slow at 9600 baud).
