I've been seeing some real tempting ads for cheap pc clones, some without a monitor or with a monochome one. Anybody know if the Amiga 1080 monitor's digital RGB is compatible with a pc CGA or EGA board? All that came with the monitor was instructions on how to hook it up to the amiga, no technical info. I'm tempted to make a poor man's Sidecar by using a null modem cable to a clone & some file transfer software. -dave

I sold my 1080 monitor to Computerland some time ago. They claimed that the Amiga monitor made a wonderful RGB digital for IBM's. Since the 1080 supports 640 x 400 dot resolution, I see no reason why it shouldn't support 640 x 350 nicely. Actually, I think the resolution rationg of the monitor refers to the number of dots or slits in the shadow mask. My Sony is spec'ed at 640 x 200, but works just fine with the Amiga's 640 x 400 output. | |||||

Observation based solely on reading the specs, and not on any direct experience in the matter: the Amiga and Sony monitors handle 640x400 only in INTERLACED mode, and that IBM's EGA output is 640x350 NON-INTERLACED. I doubt that the combination works. CGA, on the other hand, is 640x200 non-interlaced, and therefore is likely to work, if you can make a cable. rick |
