251.0. "Text Formating Problems" by HYSTER::DEARBORN (Trouvez Mieux) Mon Jan 12 1987 09:38

There is probably an easy answer to this, but I haven't found it
    yet.

I would like to be able to create text files on the Amiga and send
them to my VAX for editing, sending, etc. I have been using Textcraft
and saving the files as text only. The problem is that the file
now does not have any kind of line feeds or word wraps. Trying
to upload the files using Kermit or Xmodem creates truncated line
errors. I have the same problem if I try to load it into EMACS
    or ED.

    Any ideas?

251.1Scribble works..CHEF::ACCIARDIMon Jan 12 1987 09:455
Randy, I send text files to the VAX using Scribble! by filing the
document as a sequential 'printer' file. I then do a straight ASCII
upload by logging onto VMS and typing 'create file.txt,1'. This
has always worked for me. I as unable to do it using ASCII Textcraft
    files.

Gee, I really wanted to avoid buying yet another word processor.

I have a file I'll upload called CRLF.ARC that automatically adds
or removes the appropriate CRTL characters for CR and LF.

I could be wrong but doesn't the CP/M option in XMODEM translate
    the <LF>'s into <LF><CR>'s?

I haven't done any uploads, but I use Scribble too. The menu
contains an option to save a file with any combination of <LF>
    and <CR>.

I already have CRLF. The problem is that the textcraft files don't
seem to have anything in them to start with. If you hit return,
you get a return, but what appears wrapped on screen when editing
the file, is nothing more than a very very long line of text.

I used to have a program for my Atari 800 that would take files
like this and put returns in every 70-80 characters, looking for
spaces to create a clean word wrap. It worked beautifully, but
was SLOW. If I could get something like that for the Amiga, I would
    be all set.

But then again, perhaps I should just get Scribble.

Just did help on CREATE. That's neat! The ",1" dump the extra line
into the file 1.x. Do I have this right?
