225.0. "We have SIDECAR" by CESARE::ZABOT (Marco Zabot-Adv.Tech.mgr-Turin ACT) Fri Dec 19 1986 05:59

We have a Sidecar running. We got it last night. The info
available at the moment are not many, but here they are.
	Sidecar price (in Italy) L. 1,490,000 +tax
				US$ 1050
		money paid L. 1,190,000 +tax
				US$ 850
We have at the same time taken ( to test it) a NEC 20Mega
	HardDisk IBM compatible.
	20Mega paid L. 850,000 +tax
				US$ 600
Documentation. Poor. 12-16 pages. Lot of things unclear, such as
how/where to plug additional memory and how to use/ partition it.

Sidecar works like magic!! ( DBase, Windows etc..)
Atfer WB: available memory = 411k ( with all the external drives
	removed).
Time to load VIP ( Lotus 1-2-3 clone) : 19 sec compared 43 with
	floppies. (still aniga side)
No problem in partitioning the HD between the two sides. Any size
	from 0 to 20 Mg.

One BIG ISSUE. The IBM card ( 1.5 slots ) DOESN'T FIT WELL INSIDE
THE BOX. ( My friend had an hard time at 2:00 am when trying to close
the box. Thought he had broken everything. The only thing that happened
is that the sidecar fan is now extremely noisy. TOO BAD!)

What we're planning. Next days we will try to run DISKPERF to give
figure on HD performance on Sidecar. Asap we'll try to get an
IBM memory card and try to evaluate it.

Meanwhile, if anyone has specific requests, send them to

			{CESARE,POMPEO,CRASSO}::ZABOT

and during Xmas time we'll try to gat as many answers as possible, then
	I'll post them.
Merry XMAS with your Amiga !

Does you Sidecar have a battery backup clock and place to insert
Amiga memory? I read somewhere that when the hard disk gets full
it take a long time to do the initial search to find a file before
loading. Does this appear to be significantly true?

FYI Sidecar has been available in Australia for about 6 months now.
Price: AUS$1,000 (approx US$630 ... excahnge rate keeps falling!)
CA promotion very poor (what's new), not too many have been sold
according to a big local dealer.

    Regards from Down Under.
