219.0. "FS][ Scenarios" by CHEF::ACCIARDI () Wed Dec 17 1986 07:41

    I have obtained an ARCHIVE file containing 80 interesting Flight
    Simulator ][ scenarios, such as taking off from the Golden Gate
    bridge.

    I have uploaded them to JAKE:USER2:[ACCIARDI.AMIGA], feel free to
    copy them and de-arc them yourselves.

    Note: I uploaded using Comm132 and XMODEM, but I have not verified
    that the uploaded file works. The original archive is sound, so
    let me know if you have any problems.

    Sounds great. Could you unprotect them?

    Thanks,
    Mike
219.2Try AgainCHEF::ACCIARDIWed Dec 17 1986 13:163
    Try it again. I gave 'World' read access to the file. (Sorry,
    I am still kinda new to VMS)

    Nope, I still can't get to the files. Is the directory unprotected?

219.4Help!!CHEF::ACCIARDIWed Dec 17 1986 14:2512

    Hmmmm... All I did was type...

    	$ Set protection -
    	$_FSII.arc;1/protection=(world:re)

    Do I have to unprotect the entire directory? If so, how do I do
    it? This is a subdirectory, so do I have to unprotect the entire
    path to the Amiga directory?

    I was trained on DG AOS, and all this VMS stuff is very alien to
    me.
219.5Double Colon between the node and deviceAUTHOR::MACDONALDCUP/MLWed Dec 17 1986 14:433
    Won't work like that ....

    You need JAKE::  not JAKE:
219.6What's the vector, Victor?RADON::MCCARTHYWed Dec 17 1986 16:444
    Try setting the protection of amiga.dir in your top level directory
    to world:re. I think that will work.

    or just create a new subdirectory, like [.public], and make that
    world:re. Then just copy FSII.arc into it, and make it world:re.

219.8tyr again?CHEF::ACCIARDIThu Dec 18 1986 09:482
    OK everybody, try it again. I think I've got it now. If not, I'll
    turn in my scarf and goggles.
219.9Wrong SyntaxAUTHOR::MACDONALDCUP/MLThu Dec 18 1986 13:176
    Ed, if you look at note 219.0 you will see that the file spec
    you gave is incorrect syntax. It should read

       JAKE::USER2:[ACCIARDI.AMIGA]  not  JAKE:USER2:[ACCIARDI.AMIGA]

    The latter will always generate an error message!
219.10Here's the rub...CHEF::ACCIARDIThu Dec 18 1986 16:3615
    OK everybody, here is the problem....

    I gave 'WORLD' access to pass thru my main directory, and to read
    files in my Amiga directory, but apparently the access priveleges
    for our system disk do not include world access.

    My system manager can change this for me, but I doubt if he would
    be too excited about my reasons.

    So, we can default to the old fashioned way, ie. send me a blank
    floppy, and I'll copy the files and return thru inter-office mail.

    Sorry for all the inconvenience....try to be a nice guy.... :^)

219.11Try again?CHEF::ACCIARDIThu Dec 18 1986 16:495
    My system manager is such a wonderful person that he totally fixed
    the problem, whatever it was.

    If it doesn't work this time, I'll need a rubber room for the night.
