USENOTES takes the USENET mailing in your mail directory
from ROLL::USENET (if you subscribe to USENET) and extracts all the articles
into a NOTES conference. It even does a pretty good job adding replies
to a topic by looking at subject fields etc...
I found this utility on either:
METOO::TOOLS$LIBRARY:SW_TOOLS_CATALOG
METOO::TOOLSHED
notes conferences (sorry, don't remember which)
The files I use are also in my directories:
BACH::LISPW$:[TENNY.DCL]USENET-NOTES.COM ! invoke this
BACH::LISPW$:[TENNY.USENET]USENOTES.EXE
One of the things you need to run this is a DEFINE for USE$NET.

To those who have been accessing the comp.sys.amiga notes file
mentioned in .0; note that I have erased it and recreated it
to reclaim disk space. Public access was granted only to demonstrate
the usefulness of USENOTES and try to get someone to host a
USENET AMIGA conference. Sorry if anyone misses it, but
I can't spare the space. Is is public again, and will fill up quickly;
but beware!

Did you install usenotes.exe with a ".CLD". I looked at
usenet-notes.com. It does a "$ usenotes something.note something.txt".

I used the foreign command facility.
This means there is a symbol:
usenotes == "$lispw$:[tenny.usenet]usenotes.exe"
Note that the preceding '$' is the key (if you aren't familiar
with this major VMS gross hack).

| I've being using USENOTES to create a notes file for me. The problem
is that the moderator commands in NOTES don't seem to allow me the
flexiblity I want when it comes to deleting old topics.
It would be nice to have a program which deletes topics after they
have become dormant for a long enough period. On unix machines
there is a program called expire which does this task for usenet
news.
Any ideas as to where I can get a copy of the source to usenotes
and some info on how to manipulate a notes file from a program?
Thanks, james.
