I recently acquired a used AMIGA complete (maybe) with a number of proprietary and public software packages. The trouble is that it looks like the previous owner had the system for a while but did not keep the software up to date. Now I am trying to find out what the most current releases of the various packages are. Where can I get a reasonable uptodate listing? How about opening a note dedicated to announcing or listing current releases, something like the AMIGA owners directory. Any volunteers to start it off. I am looking to upgrade TEXTCRAFT, GRAFICRAFT, TRANSFORMER, Aegis Images, and MUSICRAFT.

Re .1: I think that the Commodore Representative at the fair held in Marlboro said that Musicraft has undergone a name change (something like Music Works) and will be released the first quarter of 1987. I got the idea that either Musicraft was a product that was very late or a product that had had a very bad first version. (The type of first version where you shoot all the programmers involved and start over.) I could have all this scrambled. I haven't been following music programs for the Amiga. Deluxe Paint taught me that I can't draw; music lessons when I was twelve taught me that I am not musically inclined.

Musicraft has been taken over by Aegis Development and will be released as 'SONIX' real soon now. I have a Beta version of Musicraft (.9 I think) and I thought that the instrument systhesis was awesome. The musical notation did not scroll, but this program really made some great sounds, unlike Music Studio, which I think is an incredible dog. Music Studio beeps and boops about as bad as my Intellivision did, which merely proves that the Amiga's oscillators can mimmick an Atari ST if programmed correctly.

re .3 - the Amiga doesn't have oscillators; all sound generation is done from wavetables. Mimicking (mimic is the non-gerund form) an ST is thus no big deal. len. |
