rumors from Infoworld: The redesigned Amiga 2500 will have several internal expansion card slots, some of whick will be compatible with existing IBM PC bus expansion cards. The machine will contain a larger power supply to support add-on Amiga 16-bit bus expansion cards as well, including an IBM PC on a card, which Commodore now favors over the earlier external PC-compatible Sidecar option. The thing will still have a 68000 microprocessor, but the Kickstart bit of the operating system will drop into ROM so you'll save a step when you boot the machine. The footprint of the 2500 will be the same as that of the Amiga 1000, but the computer will be slightly taller than the current model. -dave

the other rumor is that Atari at Comdex was showing to a select few, a new machine called the Middle Box. It's a restyled 1040ST designed to look like stacked stereo components, including an optional MS-DOS expansion box. It's got an improved, detachable keyboard with a long coiled cable, and will come in three 3 models: 1, 2, and 4 Meg of RAM. The rumor doesn't mention hardware slots! All it says is that there may also be a new 68000 bus on the back of the machine. -dave hmm.. maybe after a few more attempts, the ST will get most of the features the Amiga has now :-) |
