Anyone have convergence problems with their Sony monitors. I notice the problem on my 1311 with yellow characters on a blue background and with grey characters on a black backround. The letters have a reddish tinge along their left edges. Anyone else?

I am also using the Sony 1311, and I am delighted with the text quality and sharpness. I know squat about monitors, but maybe you need a demagnetization? BTW, I use 'SETLACE' in all my startup-sequences, and I have dithered the verticle hold a bit til the dark lines in the shadow mask completely disappear. The reults? Looks like a huge Mac screen! I have carefully examined the ST color (80 column) text quality, and I honestly feel that mine is superior. Also, I understand that some monitors can actually have the magnetic field adjusted internally, but I don't think that's the problem. Why not just return it?

Too late to return it, but I do have the extended Sony warranty. Will probably give them a call for service. The display is sharp - no question. Just looks like the RED convergence is a bit off. I know that fiddling with the gun inside is a good way to make things a whole lot worse! I use setlace too. Grey on black seems to work out the best with VT100. Paul

Contacted a place in Manchester, NH called Mohawk TV (or Mohawk somethingorother). They are an authorized Sony Servicenter. Said the earliest they could look at the 1311 would be next week. What impressed me the most was when they asked for directions to my house. Apparently, house calls are covered under the 90 day warranty! That should be dandy since he the service technician can adjust it while connected to the computer. Not bad. Paul

Mohawk is pretty good. They used to be (and probably still are) the local AtariService center. Their location gives me the creeps tho. The parking lot is directly under some high tension lines...buzzing overhead.

That's another nice feature of home service! |
