with her new Amiga. My dealer still doesn't have it yet!!

saying that 1.2 was not yet available.

| I talked to a dealer yesterday and he said that he should have it
in a week and a half or so. He also said that the distribution
consisted of seven disks and new documentation. All for the price
of fifteen dollars.

144.5 | more on V1.2 | ANYWAY::BROWN | Doug Brown | Mon Nov 03 1986 10:21 | 11 |
| The dealer was the MEMORY CONNECTION in Wellesley, Ma.
The interesting thing is that about one day after I talked to him
I received my gamma distribution kit from CA. In it there was a
piece of paper stating that the last day to send in bug reports
was oct. 31 (I received the kit on oct 29th !!). To me, this implies
that CA is going to be releasing sometime early in november.
So, hang on, V1.2 is comming. There are some neet extras and
enhancement to the old software...

144.6 | November rumor | SAUTER::SAUTER | John Sauter | Mon Nov 03 1986 12:33 | 10 |
| I visited Memory Location on Saturday. They said that they had
been told October 14 that the release of 1.2 was one month away.
As a result, they are now promising 1.2 in two weeks.
However, if October 31 is the last day to report problems then it
will likely be December before 1.2 is actually in stores. Within
DEC we count on 8 weeks between final code freeze and arrival of
the software at customer sites. Commodore may do better than that,
but it's hard to believe they can do twice as well!

144.7 | CA != reliability? | ANYWAY::BROWN | Doug Brown | Tue Nov 04 1986 13:13 | 15 |
| I agreee that it seems unlikely that CA will be releasing in two
weeks if one goes by the final bug report date. However, given
the quality of the beta release (such implying that they made a
bunch of last minute changes and shipped without adequate testing)
I would not be surprised to see them ship shortly after recieving
the bug reports. Personaly, I feel that behaviour does not indicate
good engineering practices. As you can tell my confidence in the
stability of thier releases is now rather low...
I would be very pleased to see CA take the time to test out any
recent changes and ship late instead of rushing it out the door.

p.s. So far I have not found anything wrong with the gamma release.
Then again, I'm not using it a whole lot of the time...

| Memory Location has it now.
1.2 is great. Much faster. Lotsa new utilities. You now have
EMACS and ED to pick from. Notepad is VASTLY improved.
Only problem: Much of my old software (i.e. DVideo, Online)
will not work with it. Now I have to contact all those manufacturers
to get updates....ugh.

144.9 | OnLine Works Fine with 1.2 | AUTHOR::MACDONALD | CUP/ML | Wed Nov 26 1986 15:13 | 16 |
| OnLine works fine with V1.2 ...
If you are having trouble with VT100 emulation, do the following:
o Switch to ANSI instead, or
o Do a SETMAP USA0 from CLI and VT100 will work fine
I stick SETMAP USA0 in my SDtartup-Sequence file.
DPaint and DPrint work fine too. I am surprised that DVideo doesn't.
But OnLine definitely works fine with V1.2 so save yourself a phone
call.

The Memory Location did have it. They sold out (150 copies).
They told me they had 100 more copies due Monday ( Dec 1 ).
The update contains 3 disks ( Kickstart, Workbench, and
Basic/Extras ). The update has a 77 page booklet that is a list
of all the changes.

144.11 | It works now... | HYSTER::DEARBORN | Trouvez Mieux | Thu Nov 27 1986 08:36 | 5 |
| Thanks for the tip. I got Online to work. Apparently DVideo will
not work becuase of a change in the way sampled sound is handled.
I read that somewhere, I don't remember where. I haven't even
had a chance to try it yet.

144.12 | 3 cheers for Memory Location | KIRK::KYZIVAT | Paul Kyzivat | Thu Dec 04 1986 17:36 | 12 |
| Memory Location is amazing. I was in week before last and put my name on
their list for V1.2. I was gone most of last week, so called them Tuesday
this week to ask about it. They were still saving a copy for me even though
they were sold out. I asked them to send it to me, and it arrived THE NEXT
DAY!!! I don't know how they did that - less than 24 hours, and my mail is
always slow.
Only complaint I have is that they didn't call me on it, but I suppose they
shy away from long distance calls. (Even though all calls in MA are long
distance.)

144.13 | Latest version of 1.2? | SNO78C::METRO_OA | | Fri Feb 06 1987 02:01 | 13 |
| I have recently got hold of V1.2. That is, Release 1.2 Version 33.46
Could someone confirm to me that this is infact the latest and
greatest...it came without any docs etc. and seemed to be just a
store copy rather than an Official C-A disk.
One rumour is that this version is the one that came with Sidecar
and is missing somethings that are included in the general release.
Regards from D.U.
Rob (Oh well...looks like we'll have to go to San Diego for the
Cup...I can think of worse places!!!)

| i bought one of the first batch of 1.2 official enhancer kits.
It had Kickstart version 33.180 and Workbench version 33.46.
The documentation was unbound small sheets - not even 3 hole punched.
The next batch of 1.2 had Kickstart 33.180 and Wb 33.47. Only
difference i could see (only used the disks, haven't seen the docs)
is the addition of V1.2 to the display when it asks you to insert
the Workbench disk.

33.46 was also known as a Gamma release for developers. 33.47 is the
official number of the 1.2 Workbench release. The differences between
33.46 and 33.47 were fairly minor...one keymap had 2 characters moved,
and the printer.device was taught not to wrap colors from the previous
line in HAM mode when the first column of the line contains a modify,
rather than a real color. Instead it assumes a modify off the border color.
