105.0. "Do I have a problem???" by KIRK::KYZIVAT (Paul Kyzivat) Tue Sep 16 1986 14:35

I think I have a problem with my system, but would like to get some other
opinions before I rush off to get it fixed.

- system is fine when turned on. However, after awhile (30 minutes?) it
  starts to make a vibrating noise. It seems to be the fan (bearings?).
  It doesn't seem to have any real effect on things (air continues to blow)
  so I have just been waiting and watching. Has anyone seen or heard of a
  problem like this?

- I may have another problem in the 1080 monitor. I don't have any music
  software - just the demos which come with the system. When I play the
  basic music demo (the one that draws lines on the screen and plays the
  same music over and over and ...), the music sounds a little scratchy,
  like maybe I have a loose or torn speaker cone. However, I don't know
  if the music sounds like that for everybody. Does opening the monitor
  void its warrantee like opening the system box does?

Also, does C/A have a place to call in with questions like this?

105.1I had the same problem...ANT::SMCAFEESteve McAfeeWed Sep 17 1986 14:4224

    Paul,

    When I first bought my Amiga the it was making a vibrating noise.
    (After it was on a while like yours). Just enough to be annoying.
    I took it back to my dealer and picked it up the following day.
    I was told they replaced the fan. It was cured and I haven't had
    any problems since. Oddly though when I got home I noticed I had
    a new ON/OFF switch as well. So I'm not sure if it was the fan
    or not.

    As far as the monitor goes, you might want to hook up your amiga
    to the back of a stereo amplifier just to make sure it is the monitor
    before you do anything.

    Good Luck,

    Steve McAfee

    BTW Hooking up the Amiga to an amplifier and using real speakers
    is a must if you use the sound capabilities at all. Even a cheap
    amp & speakers makes a big difference.

105.2Bose makes a good sound system that is compactMLOKAI::SANFORDFri Sep 19 1986 12:287
    Bose offers a nice amplifier/speaker set-up perfect for t he Amiga,
    you get two 5x9 speakers (I'm guessing on the size) one of the speakers
    has a built in amplifier that must be plugged in. Excellent sound,
    try them, they cost about $200.00 regular price.

105.3Bad FanHYSTER::DEARBORNThe One to Watch <>Thu Sep 25 1986 21:354
    My fan went bad after only three days of use. Computermart in Nashua
    replaced the entire system, no questions asked. I haven't had a
    problem since then, and it has been several months now.

105.4The Sh*t hits the fan (or via versa)GATE19::KYZIVATPaul KyzivatMon Sep 29 1986 19:126
OK, it is obviously time to get the fan fixed. This is when I learn the
disadvantage of buying mailorder. Having bought from GO AMIGA, is there any
easier way of getting warantee repairs than sending the thing back to
California? Does C/A have factory repair centers? (ha ha)

105.5Any Dealer ...AUTHOR::MACDONALDCUP/MLMon Sep 29 1986 20:237
    Any authorized dealer should be willing to make the repairs. They
    are not likely to turn away business!

    Worse case, just tell'em you moved into the area and are looking
    for a local Amiga dealer to do business with!
