85.0. "Press Coverage" by LEIA::SWONGER (What, me worry?) Mon Aug 25 1986 16:44

I have just browsed through the most recent isue of BYTE,
and it contains a lot of encouraging news and articles. The
first thing that caught my eye was a comparison of the
system calls of the Mac and the Amiga. I had expected the
Macintosh to come out ahead just because everyone seems to
love the Mac's software. Surprisingly, the Amiga was the
clear winner!!! I personally don't know much at all about
the system software of either machine, but I am always glad
to see good press for the Amiga.

Jerry Pournelle also had nice words to say, especially
about the Sidecar. He also was derisive about Commodore's
management, but who isn't? From his collumns in Infoworld
and Byte, it is easy to see that Pournelle is an Amigaphile.
He also likes the Atari ST, and just about every other
machine that is a good value.

There was also an article on doing animation with the
Amiga, awhich I didn't get to read.

Overall, it looks to me like things are picking up.
Commodore made $1.2 million last quarter, products are
starting to come out, and the press seems to be helping out.
If they cut the list price to about 999.00 with the monitor
for CHristmas, we could see the Amiga really take off.

Just got my copy of BYTE last night and as you said, it is nice
to see some good press concerning the AMIGA.

I was also glad to see that someone had submitted a rebuttal to
the "Whats it good for" letter that appeared a couple of months
back. I thought that BYTE was a bit irresponsible in printing
the initial letter in the first place and was therefore glad that
they saw fit to print the retort. If the author of the initial
letter had bore sway when the first automobile was being
introduced, we may all still be riding horses!!
