64.0. "Aegis Draw" by HYSTER::DEARBORN (The One to Watch <>) Mon Jul 14 1986 18:13
Well, after months of waiting, I finally got Aegis Draw. Quicky
review: pretty good. One word of warning though. It is not
much good unless you have a plotter. It was really written to
use a plotter for output. A dot matrix printer will only give
you a screen dump. I view this as a major drawback (compared to
MacDraw which is designed to output to the Imagewriter). Let's
face it, plotters are expensive--and are only good for plotting.
Back to Aegis Draw. On a 512K system, you can open two windows.
They can be different views of the same drawing or two different
drawings, allowing you to cut and paste between them. The
program works in medium-res, giving you 16 colors to work with.
It has several automatic functions built in, like automatic
dimensioning. Just stretch out a line, and the software inserts
the exact dimension on it. Becuase of the different colors, you
can create layered drawings. Each color can show different
details.
This is a very sophisticated CAD program. I've never seen
anything like it in it's price range before ($139 at GoAmiga).
In many ways, it was worth the wait. Now I guess I will have to
start shopping for a plotter.....

64.1 | Plotter at work for Draw | LEHIGH::SORKIN | Al Sorkin 289-1280 | Tue Jul 15 1986 16:09 | 5 |
| I talked with Aegis about transferring the file created for plotting
to a Vax at work with a HP plotter attached. They provided a plot
driver which is supposed to work with any HP plotter. Haven't tried
it yet but if you want a copy, ask AEGIS or send me a note as a last
resort I'll copy the listing they sent.
