Remember that old National Geographic special showing the tribe of African

jungle vines tied around their ankles ???
And how the vines were just the right length so that they'd stop falling
like maybe an inch before the tops of their skulls met solid ground ???

since it's been open, people have jumped off it in various and sundry
ways. For a while, they were doing bungee jumping but they outlawed that.
For some reason they let anyone who wanted parachute off of it.
There was a pretty serious breeze blowing which caused a lot of people to
end up in the woods. The gorge there is pretty narrow anyway. At last
count, there were 9 injured, no one critically or fatally.

| I always wondered that about the brain myself. The human brain is
protected by a liquid buffer, but I don't see much of a difference
between a bungee jumper's head jerk and that of a QB right before they
take him off the field with a concussion.
Of course, you've got just the opposite argument if you look at divers
and gymnasts. Their heads are a spinnin' and jerkin' every which way.

| I'm not an expert, but I think there is a difference in severity between
a blow to the head (which causes the classic coup-contre-coup action in
a concussion) and the jarring which occurs in a bungee jump.
Can bungee jumping be any worse that pulling 6-9 Gs in a fighter plane?
However, I think it's an interesting question that probably could use
some study.
The human body is pretty tough when you come right down to it. Some things
don't always work so well (like we ought to have evolved a better knee joint!)
but for the most part, it can take what we dish out....

| The guy should feel lucky, 'cause appearently he didn't see the 911
episode where the same thing happened to another guy, except he fell to
the parking lot without pads. Snapped his neck if I remember
correctly. He lived, but he wasn't the same upstairs (Veggie like).
This jumping looks like a rush, but I think I would rather go hang
gliding off a cliff 1st, or maybe parachuting.

| Speaking of Rescue 911, the first episode they had on last night
was great, about the fire in Manhattan.
The guys from Rescue 1 carried out an incredible rope rescue, and the
men involved were cited by FDNY. I saw the story originally on Investigative
Reports.
Talk about a bunch of brave men.....

A man in Toronto who worked for Adrenalin Rush Adventures was killed
when he hooked up his ankles and took a leap from the bungee jumping
crane. Nobody hooked up the other end of the cord.
