108.0. "Stars -- I know/knew/met him/her" by CELTIK::R_QUINN () Wed Feb 20 1991 21:00

I was over to my sisters house a couple a weeks ago for a gathering of
friends. Out of no where this chick just starts screaming. We came to
find out that all the screaming was over a picture sitting on top of my
sisters tv. The picture happened to by a 8X10 closeup of her and
Micheal Jordon sitting at a dinner table. Well she and Micheal never
really dated but they did sit at the table together for the picture but
that part of the story never gets told.

Through our daily trials and travels I'm sure we've met lots to sports
    stars and/or future sports stars.

Sometimes you knew them when the were just Micheal, Julius, and
    Erving...

    Who was your local star?

John Tudor and I both grew up in Peabody. We went to the same
elementary school and he was a year ahead of me. He stayed in the
public school system and I went to a Catholic HS, but our teams played
against each other and I worked for the summer league (Legion and
above) teams he played for. John was never better than the #3 pitcher
on his HS team and went to the local community college prior to
attending Georgia Southern as a walk-on. He's never forgotten his
roots and does an incredible amount of fund-raising for youth baseball
programs in Peabody. Even while playing in the majors he'd always be
home for the big Thanksgiving Day football game and he'd be there
hanging out with his buddies like he'd never made it big.

While in college, we had several guys who went on and made it in the
pros for a while, but the two biggest names I knew were Jeff Reardon
and Rick Pitino. All right, so Rick never made it in the pros as a
player but he's one hell of a successful coach.

I can't say that anyone from Maynard ever made it REALLY big in the
sporting world. One of my fondest memories as a kid was being an usher
at my uncles wedding. I was kind of in awe of this rather large guy
there. My uncle introduced me to him, and he turned out to be Rob
Tucker who was then playing for the Lowell Giants (back when minor
league football was in its heyday). I was his shadow for the rest of
the day. He later went on to play for the NY Giants and turned out to
be one of the better tight ends of the early 70s. Turns out his wife
taught in the Acton public schools with my aunt. I haven't the
slighest idea what he's doing now though.

I met two Dallas Cowboys back in the '70s.

I met Rayfield Wright at Love Field (pre-DFW days) in
Dallas, TX, on Monday evening, September 24, 1973. I
know the date exactly because my oldest daughter was
born on the previous Friday, September 21, 1973. I
was waiting for my MIL (mother-in-law) when this huge
fella walked up beside me. Someone yelled, "Hey Rayfield,
I saw you on TV yesterday!" Of course, I knew it had
to be Rayfield Wright. We talked a little bit. Seemed
    	like a nice fella.

Just a few months later, I was playing golf at Cedar Crest
(I believe). There was this humongous fella ahead of us
waiting to tee off. He walked up and handed us a personalized
golf ball. "This ball is the property of Jethro Pugh." He
was very pleasant, laughing and carrying on. As I said, he
was humongous. He said he weighed about 280 lbs at the
moment, although he didn't look fat. Just huge.

I spent the summer of 1986 on site at the Philadelphia Eagles' front

Helped them set up the ALL-IN-1 networked MicroVAX systems that Digital
gave to each of the NFL teams.

I threw out Rich Gedman (St. Peter's) at the plate in a high school game.
The fool tried to score from 2nd base on a base hit to left. Ron Darling
also (St. John's) played in our league, but was then an infielder.

It's amazing how much luck comes to play in making the bigs. (The
late) Brian McNally from Lunenburg, Brian Ryder from Shrewsbury, Mike
McEvilly from West Boylston and Dick Freda of Leominster were all better
ball players than either Darling or Gedman, yet they never made it

I grew up in Winthrop,Mass about a block away from Mike Eruzione of
1980 Lake Placid hockey fame. I'm a year older and we both hung around
in the same crowd of kids until we went to high school. He went to
Winthrop High and I went to dom Savio. Through the years we have
run into each other occasionally and bs'd over a few brews at local
Winthrop functions. He really is a small town guy, still lives in
Winthrop and hanhs around the town with his closest friends. None
of that post-Olympic fame crap went to his head and he still pinches
himself that he was fortunate enough to have made that team, never mind
win the Gold Medal. Besides doing hockey color commentary and special
events for networks,he gives inspirational speeches to companies all
across the country. He is humorously referred to in Winthrop as
"America's Guest" for all the speeches,money-intake,etc.that comes
from his past glory days. He is still a down to earth good guy.

I met Peter Ueberoth (sp?) at Logan one day. I was on my way to LA for
a vaca when we were in line for the detecters. I said to my friend that
this guy standing in front of him looked like Peter Ueberoth. After
whispering for a couple of minutes about whether or not it was him, he
turned around and said he was. He had been the commencement speaker at
Holy Cross and was on his way to San Jose. We took the same flight to
Denver. Of course, he sat in first class. When we left the plane, he
said bye and that was it. Seemed like a nice guy, wasn't to stuck up
like I expected him to be. Guess I shoulda asked for his autograph but
    I didn't. Oh well.

I met Bum Phillips recently at a New Year's Party thrown by a
friend/co-worker. Turns out that he was dating one of his teammates'
mom. Bum & Shirley(I think that's her name was) were visiting Wade
& Co. from Okla. Well Glenn(friend's name) loves to play practical
jokes, so when he introduces Bum I'm thinking 'yeah, I'm not gonna fall
for this one.' Took me 10 minutes to be convinced that it was really
Bum Phillips. We talked a good while about life after coaching, Earl
Campbell, etc. Said he doesn't miss coaching a bit. A very down-to-earth
    and friendly guy.

Met Dominique Wilkins at Tabor Center in Denver a few years back
while the Hawks were in town. I'm perusing thru the magazine rack and
I see these tall guys with red sweatsuits walk by. Has to be
either a pro or college b-ball team I thought. So I followed them
over to the area where all the resturants are and recognized 'Nique.
Got his autograph, and wished them luck against the Nuggets(Hawks
won). I'd imagine he's a warmer individual when away from the
pressures of being a 'star'. He seemed like he was 'goin thru the
    motions.

I met the late Buddy Rich one time.

It was in 1986, and I was in the Munich airport, returning home from
a week long business trip for DEC. I'd know Buddy's band had done
a gig the night before in Munich.

Anyway, as I'm funneling down into the chute where the pat-down search
was conducted, Buddy is in front of me. Well, I followed him and
about six of his band members to the gate, where we waited for the
shuttle bus to the plane.

When we got on the shuttle bus we were the only ones on it, and I
struck up a conversation, beginning by asking when their next gig
in Connecticut was. It turns out that their first gig back was
in New Haven.

I mentioned to Buddy that I'd seen him in West Hartford in 1980, and
he remembered the gig, and started telling some stories about the
logistics of that performance.

I shook hands with him as we got on the plane. He went to First class,
I went to Business class (back in the days when you were treated like
a human when travelling for DEC) and his band went to coach.
I thought "comforts of a star".

After takeoff, Buddy went back to coach and hung out with his band almost
the entire trip. I was impressed by that.

When he died of a brain tumor recently, I couldn't help but be bummed out....

A couple of years ago, 1988, my assignment was on site at Du Pont's
corporate MIS department in Wilmington, Delaware.

Du Pont held a three-day business meeting in the oceanside resort town of
Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. My plane landed in Wilmington, North
Carolina, on a Sunday night and I drove a rental car out to the hotel.
Checked in, grabbed the keys, went for the elevator, ho hum, you know,
routine business trip. Same old faces just a different place.

Elevator stops on my floor, door opens and three guys are standing there.
And the middle one is Howie Mandel.

I step out with this stunned look on my face and I said "Howie! Hey, how
are you ???" He said "Fine." I said "Hey, I loved your show." He said
thanks and we shook hands and he and his pals were gone. I don't know if
he knew that I was specifically referring to St. Elsewhere as opposed to,
you know, one of his HBO specials or something else. I was very
tongue-tied with the shock of seeing a famous face where and when I
 absolutely least expected it.

Next morning, I told some of the Du Pont folks I was with and I was
answered with general skepticism. Later that night, we were all hanging
out in the lobby waiting for I forget what and he got out of a cab in
front and trudged on through the lobby and on up to his room. I smiled
at him and he smiled back and now the Du Pont disbelievers had the shocked
 faces this time.

The only explanation we could come up with is that the Wilmington, NC area
for some reason is a very popular movie-making location. I think Francis
Ford Coppola has a studio there. Maybe it's Dino DeLaurentis. Anyway,
I'll never forget that shocked feeling.

 Bob Hunt

P.S. When Dan'l Medvid gets back in here after his trip, hopefully he'll
tell the story again where he unknowingly met, danced and then fell in
love with Rosanna Arquette in a Charlotte night club.

I have two meetings with the famous....

About 10 years ago, I was a volunteer worker for the International
Special Olympics and one of the jobs that I pulled was to be a personal
escort for all the stars and VIP's that were there. Some of the people
that I ferried around in my golf cart were: Hank Aaron, Phil Donahue,
Susan St. James, Christopher Reeve, Maureen McCormick(Marcia Brady),
Sally Struthers, the Buffalo Jills Cheerleaders(I like that one) and
a whole host of others.... Most of these people wanted to go backroads
to stay away from the public but I did have one VIP that was different.

    Muhammad Ali...

Now I was flabbergasted when I went to the tent to pick him up(no one
had told me who I was getting) and I was in such shock that I couldn't
talk(he was an idol of mine). Well he saw that I was like that and
cracked some jokes and put me at ease. When I told him of the route I
was taking him(backroads), he said that he never hides and that he
wanted to be out with his people(to Ali, everyone is his people). He
attracted a crowd of about 3000 people, patiently signed autographs and
than went off to visit with some of the special olympians. When the
day was over, I got his autograph and sparred(air boxing) a round with
him. He did throw one jab at me, at what I would assume full speed,
that stopped about two inches from my face(I saw my life pass before my
eyes) and the look on my face made Ali break out in laughter.

He was the most amazing person that I've ever met. It was truly
inspiring to see the look on people's faces that he met. A truly great
    man.

My other famous person that I know through my Dad's family is Bobby
Knight, another very good person who's image is biased by the
media(report the bad, ignore the good). I won't go into details but
he is constantly doing good deeds for the betterment of the community
or the individaul(Ex. Donates over $150,000 a year to the Indiana
Library, gave Landon Turner $65,000 out of his own pocket after his
accident, is involved in numerous charitable orginazations, etc.)

I met Mel King, who ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Boston in the early
80s. I did an interview with him for my college newspaper. Very down to

I worked at John Smith's (former Pats kicker) soccer camp several years
ago when he was still kicking. I also met Hubert Volsinger, former
German national team player and coach of the NY Cosmos there. Smith is a
very nice guy. He now runs an indoor soccer facility in Milford, Mass.

I was part of Rickey Henderson's audience before a game in 1989 spring
training (when he was still with the Yankees), and even got to ask him
what he thought about Dallas Green. Very entertaining man.

    less famous teammates.

I once impersonated Johnny Bucyk for an evening.

My friends an I had gone down to the Big Apple for a hellraiser
weekend, and we found this sports shop that had replica hockey shirts.
This was the only place we had ever seen them, so I scooped up a Broons
shirt, and naturally had to show it off at the next Merrimack home
    game.

Now, I had had a few, and was at the urinal when this little kid next
to me says, "Hey, mister, you play for the Bruins?" (Mister, yet! I
was only 21 or so at the time!). "Whatcha name?" "John Bucyk."

So I go back to the stands, and I notice that three or four little kids
had started to work their way a little closer. Finally, one of them
had the filberts to come over and hand me a pen and a scrap of paper.
I signed it. Then came a napkin, a popcorn box, and some other stuff.
I was really on a roll. "Wow! This is neat" I heard them say. "Is that

I once impersonated Johnny Bucyk for an evening.

Ah, the innocence of youth.

I used to be involved in those paint-pistol war games, with a bunch
of DECcies from ENO. Anyway, we went to a war won time up near Westover.

Well, after a hard day of running around through the woods, acting like
6th graders again, we decided to stop for pizza at this little pizza
place.

Well, here we are in the parking lot, decked out in woodland camo,
faces painted with camo paint, dirty, grungy etc etc....

Well, this little kid comes up on his bike, and seeing us his eyes
get wide as saucers. He says "Are you guys soldiers from the base?".
We said "Sure, we just parachuted in here on an excercise and we decided
we'd have some pizza first".

Well, you could tell we'd made the kid's day. He rode off saying something
about telling his friends....

Too funny,

I played sandlot baseball and football with Mike Ryan, former Red Sox
    and Phillies catcher.

Here was this 12 year-old-kid who could throw and hit better than us
"big" 15-year-olds. He was a nice kid then, but I haven't seen him in
    years.

What was different about him was that he went to St James High, which
didn't have sports. Yet, he was signed at 18. He played lots of ball,
from sandlot to LL, Pony League, and, I believe, Am Legion. Lots more,
    I'm sure.

I once gave a ride to Boston to a person who's name is known by almost
everyone in this conf, if not everyone. It was the on, the only,

What the hell. I'll throw in my two little stories.

I was in a History class with (dare I admit this) Dan Dierdorf in 1970.
I think it was 1970. My years at Michigan in the late '60s and early
'70s is a bit of blur (nudge, nudge, wink, wink). Actually, I dropped
the class about half way through the semester. What was funny was that
the professor (I believe his name was Rickenbacker) was about 150 years
old and took attendance (!) every class. First day, he passed a sheet
around for folks to put their names on and then required that we all
sit in the same seats the rest of the semester. Everybody but Dan put
their names down first name first. At the beginning of each class,
Rickenbacker would call the roll: . . . Joe Blow, Sid Snyder, Jane
Blow, Dierdorf Dan . . . . He never switched the name around.

The other famous (to some) athlete that I know is Ann Trason, who by
the way just set the women's world record for 50 miles at the Jackson
Five-O in Dallas on January 19. She ran a rather impressive 5:45:42
(that's a 6:54 pace, folks, for 50 miles). She also set the course
record at the Hunter S. Thompson Fear and Loathing 50 in San Francisco
(this is a much tougher course than Jackson Five-O). She holds
numerous other records and clear superiority among American women
ultrarunners. We met at Leadville last year and hung out for a few
    days. Fine lady.

						     Ninja is gonna get
						     me for this!

When I was going to school, and living in, beautiful
Pueblo, CO, I worked at this nightclub escorting rowdy
patrons out the door (to put it nicely). Across the
parking lot from this nightclub was a fancy eatery which
had dancing on Friday and Saturday nights only. Since
we usually had drinks there after we got off work, it was
only natural that they recruited a couple of us to keep
the peace at their establishment on these two nights.
What a job. Anything we wanted to eat or drink plus $4.00
per hour to keep a bunch of *suits* behaved.

Anyway, they were filming part of "Vacation" in the area.
My special assignment one night was to keep everyone out
of the room that Chevy Chase and his wife were dining in.
He was very appreciative. After they were finished eating,
they came out to the bar area and plopped down on a couple
of stools and drank, conversed, and joked with us. He's
quite the character in real life as well as on the screen.

The real kicker that night came after Chevy and his wife
had already left. I was standing at the end of the bar
close to the exit, when this absolutely stunning blonde
cruised by me headed towards the door. I quickly made
a dash to the door and held it open for her. As she
was passing by me, through the door, she looked up and it
was none other than that goddess Christie Brinkley! I'm
tellin' ya my knees got weak gazing at her. HUBBA HUBBA!
She said "Thank you" and walked down the street to the
hotel that the cast and crew were staying at. I watched
her the whole way too! This was pre-Billy I think. I
would've asked her out but I couldn't think of anyplace
to take her besides the stock car races ;^)

Your use of Dan'l's is absolutely correct. The first apostrophe
represents the missing "ie" in Daniel. The second apostrophe
represents the fact that something belongs to Dan'l. Now, if you were

    Two notable experiences:

    1) I played a year of prep football with Will Grant. Will (or
Wilburrrr) as we called him was only a sophmore at the time
but started at center. He went on to play professional ball
for the Bills, where he was their starting center for 4-5
        years.

I was the Right Guard and always remember running the crossbuck
play against a 5-man front ...... I'd veer across at the snap and
hit the defender playing heads up on the center ..... as I was
struggling to simply keep my guy stationary, there was this
sound of " ooommmphhh" behind me. When the whistle sounded, I
would turn around and see the remains of the player that Wilbur
        had hit.

    2) back in 1986 or 7 I was flying back from Australia. Changed planes
at LA and sat in first-class (yes, it was approved DEC policy
then). I was in the first row ..... where there's extra footroom
and who boards the plane but the entire Laker team ..... heading to
Boston for the NBA finals ..... I sat next to Kareem and met most
of the team but had the chance to speak with Magic and James
Worthy the most. Kareem ...... said hardly anything but read every
        financial magazine available.

OK, kiddies, but just once more and then it's bed time.

I was at this Charlotte nightclub called the Park Elevator. This was an
alternative/progressive club in an old elevator warehouse south of the
city. It has since moved and lost a lot of personality in the process.
The Park Elevator was a good place if you aren't into the meat market
bimbo scene. You won't find all the guys in jeans, unbuttoned shirts
flaunting chest hair, and heavily laden in AquaVelva. Nor will you
find women with so much mousse and spray in their hair that they cause a
fire hazard.

No, this is a place that had a motto: "The Park Elevator, you know if
you belong." This club really didn't start jumping until around
midnight. However, this night I felt like having a few beers and
dancing before the floor got too crowded. Fate.

There I was, taking in the music and noticing some of the people that
were also there early. The DJ started spinning some hot tunes so I went
out to the dance floor. Unlike the meat markets, dancing by yourself
was perfectly acceptable at the Park Elevator. No one cared. I was one
of several at that time just out there moving to the technobeat.

And then I noticed her. A very attractive young miss wearing a long,
black, hooded cape. And she wore the hood up. I found this very chic.
It was dark and the lights were flashing. She was a very
mysterious-looking figure out there only several feet away from me
completely draped in black.

Every so often we made eye contact and she would smile. No big deal.
After a bit, she moved over and was dancing closer to me and our eyes
met a couple more times. We kind of gave each other this awkward look
that signified, "Yes, I acknowledge your presence, but we really aren't
dancing together...but we're not dancing apart either..."

She was pretty. And she had the loveliest smile.

A song came on that neither of us was too crazy about so we looked at
each other and gave that "I'll only give it a 60, Dick" look and walked
off the dance floor together...but not really together...until...

She said, "You're a good dancer." My heart leapt. {Keep in mind at
this point I still had no clue as to who this lovely is.} I turned to
her and said in my coolest, most debonair, Brando-like voice, "Thanks.
Want something to drink?"

"I'll have a beer." Then she pointed over to the corner and said, "I'll
be over there." This girl was all right. She was a beer drinker.

{From here on in the details are kind of hazy, but to the best of my
recollection, this is what happened...}

I went to the bar, got two beers, and was making my way over to the
corner where she was sitting at a table and these two huge dudes were
standing on either side of her. I guess I hesitated when I saw
this...actually I probably looked pretty stupid and nervous wondering
what I was getting into...and she raised her hand and motioned for me to
come over.

I did. Sat down right across the table from her. No way was I turning
my back on Butch and Guido there. She told me her name was Rosanna.
I should have known right there, but nope, no light bulb went off yet.
I figured this was just a lovely girl who was out with her two, big,
quiet, ogre friends.

I stupidly said, "My name's Daniel," and we shook hands. She grinned
and said, "You don't know who I am, do you?"

"Should I?"

That's when she dropped the bomb and these two bodyguards made sense. I
really don't remember much of what I said after that. I think I must
have been charming enough for her to have her let me sit with her. I
don't think I babbled and tripped over my tongue. In fact, we spent the
rest of the evening talking and dancing together. She never once
removed the hood...and Guido and Butch never moved...not once.

But it really wasn't long after that that she said she had to go because
they had an early shoot the next day. She kissed me on the cheek and
left with the two hulks. That's where I blew it. I really do think she
liked me and we had a great time dancing. And I just let her go. Poof.
She just walked out and I didn't even as much give her my number or ask
her if I could contact her. Nothing. I don't even know if I ever told
her my last name. Maybe I was thinking along those lines and I just
didn't know how to ask someone like her, "Um, can gitchur phone number."
That's not how I talk but I'm sure that's how it would have come out.

But it's a good memory and a great story. Too bad I let it end.

Now go take a cold shower. I know I need one.

I have to NBA meets over the last year. I was on a DEC business trip
in France last May. As I was sitting in the Nice Airport waiting for
my plane call, I noticed this guy walking in, head and sholders above
everyone else. All the French people noticed but didn't make the
connection. I made it right off. Kareem, with his wife (she was
wearing the black satin jacket and hat for the Raiders). He was
wearing old jeans and a t-shirt. Now I am not one to ask for
autographs, but I couldn't pass this up. I walked over and asked him,
and all I had was a business card. It is tacked to the wall in my
office. As a side note, he was not to impressive, and very abrupt,
even though I was the only person out of 100 who noticed him.

My second meet, was at Hermans in Framingham last summer. I was with
my two daughters looking at golf clubs, when I notice Kevin McHale just
5 feet away. He is trying out a metal driver. Just as he is into his
back swing, my youngest walks toward him. 6 inches closer and he would
have nailed her forehead. All I could envision was season tix for the
    price of a daughters concussion.

first to the 5th floor without speaking a word.

`Black guy, huh?' I said... `That narrows it down.'

He says... `He was tall.'

`Ah' I said. `Tall Black guy... I'll think of it in a second.'

He says, `his name was like Lamumba or something, but that's not it'.

I said `Manute Bol?'

Blair Underwood is one of my favorites. He's one of the few people who

O.K. Here's mine (I think I've told this story before in ::SPORTS):

In high school I played against and tried to block Fred Smerlas (BC/Bills/Niners).
Needless to say he cleaned my clock. I swear he made every tackle in the game.

In the 70s I went to the European Resturant in the North End after going to
a Celtics game. Sitting at the table next to me was John and Beth Havlecek (sp),
with some friends. They seemed like nice folks, we didn't bother them, let
them enjoy their dinner. Beth is a true babe.

I sat across the hall at DEC from Rich Gedman's cousin, but he never introduced
me. Also my wife's cousin covers the Sox for the Providence Journal, but once
again, he has never gotten me tickets or into the locker room.

re: Rosanna

There are two versions of the Executioner's Song. One was for TV, and the other
for cable. In the cable version, Rosanna is naked a part of the movie.

My brush with local sports celebrity happened five years ago. My
father in law owns a trucking company. While going through the
manifests he noticed a delivery for none other then Bobby Orr. Being
the nice guy he is, he pulled this order off of the truck, and called
me. I personally delivered the parcel (a case of assorted snacks packs
from Standard Brands) to Orr's home (Cherry Hill Lane, Weston, MA).
When I went around to the back door, Number 4 was sitting by his pool
on the portable phone. After realizing I was the "delivery" man, he
asked me to bring the box to his wife. When I got into the house Peggy
was doing laundry in the basement. She accepted the box, and as a
result I got Peggy Orr's autograph on a shipping bill. What a
    memorable day.

I guess I've been sort of lucky. I've had quite a few brushes with

recognize my face. Real nice down to earth guy, can't shoot hoops a
lick.(While at Nebraska first year 'frisco)

was driving a laid white mustang 5.0 and he pumped gas like your
average Joe. I stepped up to talk while he was cruising the munchy
section and he actually talked about 15 minutes and autographed our
game tickets. Appeared really genuine and didn't seem to let any of
the fame go to his head. (APRIL 90)

Artis and Oren Gilmore(6'9'' little brother never made it to startdom)
in a Chicago nightclub. They were huge and both were kind of
    introverted.

Magic, Isaiah, Darrel Dawkins, Aquire, .... after a allstar benefit in
Kalamazoo Mich. at "Mr. Presidents" restaurant and social club.

Sammy White ex-Viking receiver grew up with my dad and uncles in
Louisiana. Met him after his hey day though.

with us until he injured his knee a couple of years ago. He really is
    only 5' 5". I hover over him at 6'1" .

Being in Atlanta I bump into a lot of the stars but only really met a
    few.

It was kind of a nice break, for us too, since a lot of us were really

Since Anthony and Peoples got off the course before my friend did they
had everything ready to go. Peoples even got a curtisy car from P.V.
to drive, it had only around 25 miles on it. David Peoples also got us
a couple of six packs and cups for the ride. We sat out in the
bleachers and had a great time. After the game we drove back to
Worcester and went to a bar and had a couple of more beers.

out of place dressed in a plaid shirt, OP shorts, and loafers (no

I walked over and said, "Paul Evans, right?"

    "Yes," he said and smiled.

"Were you up in Greensboro for the tournament," I asked (about a high

"Yeah, headed back to Pittsburgh now."

"Good luck this season. I'm a big fan of Pitt hoops."

He said "thanks" and I walked away. He's a quiet guy and I really

Funny, 'Saw, that "Young Actor's Forum" skit on lasted week's SNL was
really funny. That "Had her, did her, been there, ..." thing was a
 riot.

I thought Dana Carvey did a superb Mathew Broderick.

And the funniest part was when they mentioned Clint Eastwood, and
Emilio goes "Did him"....

TOO funny

I wouldn't be shocked to see another Young Actor's Forum this week
with Keifer Sutherland hosting. His promo last night was pretty good

"Please don't decide at the last minute not to watch."

Well, I was on the Victoria Clipper - a water jet type boat - over the
weekend with Mickail Gorbachov (sp?). He must have decided to go on
the trip to rest after Madrid. I even took a picture of him. When I
get it back, I'll forward a copy to certain noters to prove this.

He was wearing scalp makeup to hide his 'spot', but he was a good bloke
    anyway.

For lack of a better topic, I'll post these two tidbits here:

A few Sunday's ago, NBC did a profile on Marty Schottenheimer. During
the interview, Schottenheimer talked about his greatest influence in
his life regarding sports. He named his high school basketball coach
(Cherry Hills HS, MacDonald, PA) who talked him out of quitting the
    team.

That team went on to the Pennsylvania state championships and
Schottenheimer was a big part of it. They showed a yearbook photo of
the team and coach and there sitting next to a young Marty is another
star on the team, my uncle Richard Hallam. Schottenheimer went on to
be a great coach. My uncle went on to be the classic Pennsylvania
State Trooper...6 foot 9 and a bad attitude.

Think that was good, try this one:

Faith Daniels, the news anchor for the Today show, is originally from
Pittsburgh. She got her start at WTAE in Pittsburgh and I remember
watching her there. She is very comely and you can tell she's really
down to earth. I've always liked and admired her.

Faith was an adopted child. She recently tracked down her real parents
in the Pittsburgh area. As it turns out, Faith Daniels is my cousin.
Guess that means I can't marry her now.
