Don, where are you located? I'd guess you're in Ottawa
but some how I just don't think it's just that obvious.
Mostly because I can't imagine driving from there to ride
in western Mass.

Okay Don, things make a tad bit more sense now.
I was confused!
I can't speak for any groomed areas in Mass, sorry.

| Rick,
Day late or so but call the president of SAM (Tom Lively) I have the
SAM paper and will bring in tomorrow. He is on the WWW NET at
WWW.SNOWASSOCMA.COM. You have to go why out for groomed trails.
We went out last year and the trails were rough the and the bridges
worst. Would not do that again.
Anyway I will try and get you some more information for the future.
Good Riding and hope the moguls are small,
Don

I know that there are trails in Mass and I am also
aware of the work that the snowmobile clubs do. There
is a volunteer force that does the best that they can do
with the resources they have.
The shame of it is, Western Mass has some very nice
areas. My family comes from Orange/New Salem/Athol, which
is nice by itself, but head out further on Route 2 and
the Berkshires are there.
Point being, Mass, (western Mass) could be a huge snow
mobile destination *if* ...
The state got involved, trails were established that
tied into Vermont and New York which were Tucker groomed.
And the biggie!!!
The entire state was picked up and moved 80 miles north
so to better insure that there would be snow.

| Actually the berkshires should provide the elevation needed for the
snow in that area now if just the rest of it would happen.
I've been sledding for the past 6 weekends in So Vt in the
Green Mts and have very good cond but when we come outta
\the snow she is just about gone :-(...

| Couple of us met with Tom Lively (SAM) in North Heath Mass. Tom had
never been there and wanted to check it out. As I said the trails were
not groomed, narrow and the briges were fairly new but very narrow with
no rails or ski guides (Very scary at 30 feet). We also got checked
by the MDC police for registration; which was Ok.
Tom said to go out to Clarlemont and park in the Inn. The Inn owners
really welcome everyone. After that point he said the trails are
mostly groomed. We hope to go out there some times this year and give
them a try, Tom said he would give us the grand tour.
It would really make a nice day trip from the Marlboro area;
so I hope the trails are good.
Tom Lively is an excellent president and dedicated to our great
snowmobiling sport. If you plan on going out there please give him
a call and he will meet you anywhere, almost anytime. His phone number
is 413-337-8305.
I guess what I am saying is that North Heath trails are for the slower
smaller machines that like tight windy trails. We did not put a great
many miles on but I never saw a gas station or restaurant. We did
make it to Irving state forest. It was small but the few trails were
good and mostly plowed rather than groomed.
Good Riding,
Don
