Apple Announces Price Reductions on Several Product Lines
U.S. Prices of Power Macintosh, Performa, Network Servers, and Workgroup
Servers Reduced Up to 27 Percent
CUPERTINO, Calif.--Jan. 31, 1997--Apple Computer, Inc., today announced
lower prices to its U.S. authorized resellers for several product lines,
including Power Macintosh, Macintosh Performa, AIX-based Network Servers
and Mac-OS-based Workgroup Servers. Effective immediately, selected
products from each line are being offered at price reductions of up to 27
percent. These price reductions are consistent with Apple's strategy to
offer high-value, competitively priced products to market segments such
as large business and professional publishing as well as the consumer,
small business, and youth marketplaces.
"Our customers look to Apple to provide advanced multimedia and Internet
capabilities on computers that help them create, edit, publish, and
access information," said Marco Landi, executive vice president and chief
operating officer. "These price reductions allow customers to purchase
superior Apple technology at competitive prices."
These price reductions may result in lower U.S. retail prices. Actual
prices may vary and customers should consult their local Apple authorized
reseller. Outside the United States, Apple has already reduced or is
concurrently reducing prices on these computers in most of its major
market segments.

AppleShare IP 5.0 Upgrade for Workgroup Server Solution The new prices
for the Workgroup Servers include one of three solution bundles--valued
at $4,000 to $6,000 if purchased separately at manufacturers' suggested
list prices. Additionally, customers who purchase a Workgroup Server
AppleShare bundle from Jan. 7, 1997 are eligible for an upgrade to
AppleShare IP 5.0 by submitting proof-of-purchase and $9.95 for shipping
and handling. The AppleShare IP 5.0 upgrade promotion allows Workgroup
Server customers to purchase Workgroup Servers at the reduced server
prices announced today, and later take advantage of the enhanced
networking and Internet features offered with AppleShare IP 5.0. As the
next-generation AppleShare server software, AppleShare IP 5.0 combines
traditional file and print capabilities with web, mail and File Transfer
Protocol (FTP) services to provide users with a one-stop productivity
solution to share information and resources. The upgrade also includes
Mac OS 7.6, and is planned to be made available to customers when
AppleShare IP 5.0 is anticipated to ship in the first calendar half of
1997. To register for the upgrade, customers of the Work group Server
AppleShare bundle should call 1-(800) 293-6617, extension 759.
