| The V3.0 of the AOL client software also requires CFM-68K.
After reading the Apple technical note, and deciding that I didn't really want
to fuss with reinstalling AOL v2.7 (they changed the format of email storage), I
decided to guess that AOL did not use CFM from both normal and interrupt levels.
So I am experimenting with whether AOL exhibits the CFM-68K bug.
So far (since late November) I have had no problems that could be attributed to
CFM-68K. Now, I'm not a heavy user (I keep it under 300 minutes per month, being
a cheap $9.95 member), but I have exercised Flash Sessions (now called AutoAOL)
and the web browser (a little, usually just enough to pick up an URL to drag
over to Netscape) as well as the normal AOL areas. I almost always use TCP/IP
access rather than an AOL dial-in.
Well, it works for me, but I won't guarantee that it works for you. [obligatory
CMA disclaimer].

| My experience is the opposite. AOL 3.0 always crashes shortly after I start it
up and log in - usually before it even gets to the Channels screen.
Two other people who have AV Macs (one 660av, one 840av) posted messages to the
effect that they were having similar problems, so the AV Macs may be more prone
to the bug than other 68k Macs are.

| AOL 3.0 crashed repeatedly on my PowerBook 150 - I was never able to
do something as simple as editing preferences, let alone establish a
connection. I've backed off to 2.7 and plan to stay there, as I said
before, for the foreseeable future.
