| One MacLC at our school has a floppy drive that wont eject.
I removed it, but it looks like whatever motor that activates
the 'eject' mechanism has burned out or is dead. You can put
floppies in it and they drop right in, but no eject. It ejects
fine by pushing the eject lever.
I've been looking for a replacment. I called the dealer our
school usually uses (UNICOM). They say they dont normally sell
floppy drives and checked with their repair shop. They claim
they have a special deal with Apple where you return the old drive
to Apple and Apple sends you a new (?) one. This sounded great to
me...I always turn in my old car starter motor or alternator for a
rebuilt. But Apple's price was about $250 for the floppy drive.
I can find floppy's at other sources for $75 to $100 dollars.
I've ordered one from SmallDog for $84...new FDHD auto eject floppy drive
for the MacLC. They claim its the right drive...hope so!
