Obviously, there is always the possibility that something significant
will occur that doesn't trigger an event. By the same token, the
operators could also miss something significant if they don't happen
to be looking at the screen when it occurs. Time passes and the event
scrolls off the screen. As far as I'm concerned, your method of looking
through the logs and creating events from various things is the way to
go. Most sites that I encounter rely on ENS to get the job done -
thats why it's called Event Notification Service. You'll find a lot of
operations folks are concerned about products like PCM because it
allows data-centers to trim back their operations staf. Some sites have
gone "lights-out" after integrating PCM with other tools - the
operations staff just got automated away.

They can continue to get ECO's and support through Digital. They will
receive new releases directly from CA.

Dan,
just to digress slightly, do you know whether Digital On-Site teams will get
new releases direct from CA, or will we have to approach CA in some fashion in
order to set that up ? (Currently, of course, we get the Condist CDs). Also,
for what equates to 'digital internal' use, do you know whether there is now a
licensing issue ? (ie. do we need to approach CA to get licences ?)
Thanks,
Ross

To my knowledge there is no "automatic distribution". Until further
notice, I'll store all releases/eco's at CSC32::PCM$KITS:. This will
cause the least amount of pain for all.
For you ftp folks, note also that there are a lot of kits and eco's
available via ftp. You can use any Web browser to view them from the
following URL:
http://www.csc.cxo.dec.com/home.html
access the CXO site via the following

A very good question! The license pak will change but I have not been
told how "Digital Internal" will obtain them. We get free licenses for
Unicenter so we should get them for POLYCENTER. I have a con-call with
CA tomorrow and I will ask. If they can make a generic pak that can
be distributed to any internal site, I will make it available on CSC32.
