1478.0. "Can't archive under DUNIX!!!" by STKAI1::MALM (My God! It's full of stars...) Tue Feb 04 1997 09:08

Hi!

I've installed PCM v1.6-309 (DUNIX v3.2G) at a customer site recently. It all
worked fine, despite my bad knowledge of U**X.

The only thing is that I told the customer that he should do an archive on
the logfiles every now and then, preferrably in the background (cron) so
that he then could do an ordinary backup of his disks.

We inserted the proper lines in a script file that does the backups and
tried it. Nope! It didn't work!

The archive process stopped with a "memory fault - core dumped" message. No
logfiles were archived but the cron job went on with the backups...

We tried to run the command interactively - went OK! We then ran the shell
script - the same good bahaviour!

It seems that it can't run in a script file under cron!

Somebody suggested that there were some strange things concerning standard
input/output/error.

Does anybody have a clue? What's wrong?

Did you use the -y switch on the Archive command? I have a feeling that
archive is prompting for confirmation as thats the default. The -y
    means "noconfirm".

Yes! I did use the "-y" switch. And besides, the script worked OK
interactively. There must be something else that we've forgotten or...
But what?!
