1423.0. "Is this a bug in add filter on VNS?" by WOTVAX::DAVIESG (I had too much to dream last night) Mon Nov 18 1996 10:30

I have just finished work on a customer site doing a migration from VCS
to PCM v1.6-205. System Watchdog and OSCint are also involved in the
customer configuration; however, what I noticed seemed to be a bug
    within PCM.

The customer was running VMS v6.2 on a VAX. What happened was that
whenever I created a filter and tried to act on a class or event the
accepted configuration of the filter would always come back to confirm
that there were no events or classes to check on; hence the filter
    would never work.

I therefore had to go back into PCM edit and modify the filter adding
the classes or events I wanted to filter on. Once this was saved the
filter had the correct switches on it. Is this a known feature? If not
what do I need to do to initiate a correction to the code.

If the above hasn't explained the problem, this is what I'm doing...

    $ console edit/inter=char

    PCM Edit> add filter

    Name: dummy
    On all Events [Y/N] [Y]:N
Add an Event [CR to exit]: HALTED002
Add an Event [CR to exit]: <RETURN>

...go all the way through and register filter, then you get shown the
set up of the filter, in which the event line looks like this...

    Events 0

...then we have to go into modify filter dummy and add this event
    in!?!?!

    Guy,
Yes, this is a known problem with the character-cell editor and it has
been IPMT'd. I believe that it has been fixed but you'll have to
install ECO3 and the latest build level to verify.

    Dan,

Thanks, I've been out on site for the last month and a half (!), so
appologies for not replying earlier. I have now got ECO revision3
insytalled on both Unix and VMS systems and will keep monitoring this.
Why are we still releasing 1.6 -100 on the CDs as these ECO revisions
have been out for some time now?

    Regards

    >V1.6-100

Because CA owns the product and calls the shots in terms of releases.
Their ECO process is much different than Digitals. The next release of
PCM will be V1.7 and it is more a less a maintenance release.
