| tl,
Unfortunately what you want to do is not possible to the best of my
knowledge. My understanding is that you can set the console to the
serial line when using the ARC. The other issue is even if we could do
this we still can't fully manage the NT box since it doesn't have the
same concept of a console that "we" have. It's going to take a lot of
work to make this happen too. Personally I doubt we'll ever see a
serial line console on an NT box unless it's a server (such as a
TurboLaser) designed with one.

Dan

Thanks for the feedback. Actually, what I think I want may not be all
that hard.
Let's talk just about the Alpha systems for a minute. If SRM is
running, then a PCM connection gives you two things:
o console control before operating system loads
o operating system access after the operating system loads
If ARC is running, then a PCM connection gives you one thing:
o console control before the operating system loads
So far, so good?
I want to control the ARC console until the operating system loads.
Given that it looks like a character cell menu, it doesn't seem like a
long jump to get this to work. What I don't want, or expect, is to
access the operating system, once running, through the serial port. I
know that is completely against the design of the Windows operating
system.
Given this, what do you think?
Thanks!

I believe your problem is related to the terminal emulation mode that
you are running. If we want to use the serial port (terminal emulator)
torun the ARC console to run ECU and RCU we set the terminal as a
VT320, or VT420 with eight bit, no parity and XOFF at 128

You need to make sure that your console line is set to 8-bit. That did it for
me.
