1367.0. "Connecting to a unix system" by SWETSC::WESTERBACK (Panta rei) Mon Aug 26 1996 09:21

I'm running PCM 1.6-306 for Alpha VMS, with lots of VMS systems
connected. Now I'm trying to hook up two Digital UNIX 3.2 systems.
    (Alphaserver 1000 and 2100)

I can see that the decserver ports are connected, but when I try to
do a console connect I only get

    POLYCENTER Console Manager
    Connect/Monitor Interface V1.6-306
    Connected to remote console (STKSEL)
Type CTRL/E to exit or CTRL/G to escape to monitor

Can't get a login prompt. If I look at console status/all, I see:

    39 STKSEL 000031A3 LYE 0 0 28

    Whick looks OK, I guess...

Now, maybe the problem is that we're all very new to unix here. Is
something else needed on those systems? We still have the CRT's
connected, but my understanding is that it's possible to have both
CRT and PCM console running at the same time?

    Rgds,

No hints? I found out you can do a "set console serial" which
might help, but it didn't make any change...

    Hans,

Did you power-off / power-on after changing to ">> set console serial"
    ?
Btw try and connect a VT to your serial port and see if you get console
control (then if OK do Pcm setup)
