1365.0. "Telnet without terminal server" by OPCO::TSG_SJM (Steve McGinley - Sydney Australia) Thu Aug 22 1996 22:49

Not sure whether this is supported, can't find any reference to it. We
have several MegaPac's (X25 routers) used in a Telecoms switching
environment, and we need to capture the output from these devices.

I see that all references to telnet connections mentioned in this
conference refer to using a terminal server connection. We aren't in a
    position to do that.

The command $ telnet <ip-address> <telnet-number> works fine, so I
would assume, I know thats dangerous, that in PCM I could just setup a
telnet connection to these devices, but nothing is being captured in
the logfiles, and there most definitely is output being generated.

    Cheers

If the device in question has a physical console port where all the
"output" is sent then you really need to use a terminal server
    connection.

However, based on your statements below

this device may have a "soft" console. If the listener number that
you use in the above telnet command attaches you to the "soft" console
then there is a simple solution and that is to use pseudo-terminals.

When you configure the node via the PCM config editor you will set the
"Connection type" to Pseudo-terminal and the "Comamnd to execute" field
to the appropriate "telnet" command. There is nothing dangerous
about this method at all. The real question is does the "soft"
console receive the same "output" as the physical console.
