1342.0. "Long (proper) name support for the CHARACTER_CELL interface" by KERNEL::AMISSM () Tue Jul 16 1996 08:07

Hi

I have a customer who is able to connect to a unix node via the C3 interface
from a vms console manager node running v1.6-127.

His problem is that he can't CONSOLE ARCHIVE or CONSOLE CONNECT to this node
from the charactor cell interface.

Should this be the case?

ie:

    $ console edit/inter=char

    The problem is that you *MUST* speciy the system name character for
    character including the character case.

    Use the same string as in your database. I would recommend that they
    use a simpler system name. Thats a lot to type!

    I don't think you'll find that that is correct (imho). PCM allows me
    to create a 'system' with a name containing more than two periods, but
    wont subsequently allow me to connect to it (using c3 or dcl).

 I would recommend that they use a simpler system name. Thats a lot to type!

    iyho ?

    it seems to me that I should be able to use any valid name, and, as I
    can create a.b.c.d as a system, that is, to some parts of pcm, a valid
    name.

    As a work-around, we have created a system called "proxy.access" and this
    works fine (case does not appear to be important).

    Thanks for your support,

Regards,
Ross

    Then it's a bug and needs to be fixed. IPMT it plz!

    Whats your point? I was making a suggestion. Period.

   Sorry if offence was taken, I assure you none was meant. I was amused
   by your suggestion and should have added a 'smiley'.
