1320.0. "Any hints on setting PCM with multiple LAT links?" by HTSC19::KENNETH () Wed Jun 12 1996 01:51

Hi,

I have a customer who have 2 lat links on one single VMS node. One is
for the FDDI and the other is for Ethernet. He runs PCM V1.6 on it.

	_____________________________ Ethernet
		|
		|
	     -------
	     |      |
	     | VAX  |
	     |      |
	     -------
		|
		|
	 	|
	-------------------FDDI

Therefore the VAX has two lat links, the default LAT$LINK for the FDDI and
one link for the Ethernet.

However, when the PCM startup, it can only connect to the DECservers
(console ports) on the FDDI side, but not the Ethernet side.

If I :

	  $ MCR LATCP
          LATCP> CREATE PORT /APPLICATION LTAxxx
          LATCP> SET PORT /NODE=server_name /PORT=port_name /NOQUEUE LTAxxx
          LATCP> SHOW PORT LTAxxx !Confirm device creation
          LATCP> EXIT

          $ ALLOCATE LTAxxx:
          $ SET TERM /TYPEAHEAD /HOST /TTSYNCH LTAxxx:
          $ SET HOST /DTE LTAxxx:
          <CR>

It works, the connection to the Decservers on the Ethernet side work again.
All the ports ok now. The PCM can monitor the consoles input from these
DECservers again.

Is there anybody know what's wrong? Any hints on setting multiple LAT links?

Thanks for your help in advance.

    Kenneth,
      You aren't precreating the ports and setting the connect type to DIRECT
    are you? If so then thats not the correct method. You
    need to set the connect type to LAT and enter in the
    server name and port-number. You do this via the
    PCM config editor obviously. Since you have two ethernet
    controllers you also want to increase the console
    open timeout. The latter is part of the Characteristics
    menu in the DECWindows config editor.

1320.2Where is the "console open timeout" entry?HTSC19::KENNETHWed Jun 12 1996 23:1911
    Hi Dan,

    Thanks for your help. Where can I find the "console open timeout"
    entry? I have search the PCM DECwindows Configuration Editor
    Characteristics menu, but cannot find the entry there.
    Can you tell me where is it?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Sorry bout that! It's one of the hidden parameters. Using the
    decwindows config editor, place the pointer over the word "Status" and
    then do

    SHIFT-CTRL-ALT-MB1

    You gotta have talented fingers to do this one...;-}

    You may need to expand the resulting window to see all the slider bars.
