1279.0. "PCM for a large project ??" by HGOVC::JAMBU () Fri Apr 26 1996 03:06

Hi,

I am jambunathan, I am with the technical support group in hongkong. One
of our large account is looking for a integrated console manager solution
for managing 400 ALPHASERVERs !!! (this is over next 2 years).

What they want to do is:

1. Have a single console for all the servers.
2. log all problems and print every console messages
3. Send Alerts/alarms in case there is a system fault, RAID problems
   etc..

This is for their Video on Demand project... They are looking for a integrated
solution for all their servers... Since there are other products such as
Performance Manager, Networker etc.. are also required to manage the environment
We would like to look at a single console solution running Polycenter Netview.
All the other products such as Console manager, Perf. Manager, Networker
would then send events/traps to Netview which in trigger a event such as
paging for the system adminstrator, or run some other diagonstics action..

This maybe a ambitious one.. Please let me know how we could use PCM under
netview. Is there a tight integration between them.. Has anyone done any
similar projects ??

Regards
jambu

    Hi,

1/ You can use Oscint to integrate Pcm to Netview (we have done similar
projects based on Decps/Decnsr/Psw/Pc/Oscint to Netview)

2/ You could have one single Netview Console but below that more than
one Pcm Machine would be needeed as the current limit is 200 machines
connected and you should take care of Fail-over as well.

Try contacting the RHKJC, they have the COAu and COAu-NG projects (Computer Operations Automation). The project
only got 3/4 of the way through, but they are using PCM and OSCint as well as Netview.

Once you've spoken to them, or may be Joel Berman is best. I'll answer any questions as I was the technical
consultant on the project.
