I believe I've read the notes in this conference relating to concurrent licensing, but I just want to make sure I understand how concurrent use licensing works. I had a customer ask me how many concurrent use licenses he needed to manage 8 computers and 12 HSJ40s. Without thinking, I said "20." He then told me that he only wanted to "manage" 3 or 4 systems at a time (he wants the icons for all of them available, but he'll only open up to 4 terminal windows simultaneously on his workstation). He insists that the way all of our other "concurrent use" products are licensed dictates that he only needs 4 licenses. Help please! Can a customer purchase only the number of licenses that will be used simultaneously, or does he need to purchase 1/system to be managed? Thanks in advance. mike

Without thinking, I said "20." And that was the *correct* answer. In PCM, each node in the configuration needs 100 license units. In a technical nutshell, the line controller daemons will attempt to lock 100 units for each node they configure. If the lock fails then there are no more license units so communication with that nodes console will not take place. There is no licensing for the number of users of the PCM interfaces. You can have as many C3's, MONITOR/CONNECT sessions as the PCM engine can reasonably handle. Regs, Dan | |||||
